event r another bullseye v seems as if the georgetown fall fair is gaining momentum with old age and the i 01st annual was in every way the equal of the centennia last year the ticket wickets were kept humming from 1 30 until af ter 4 oclock and it was a surprise to your editor to learn later that gate receipts were slightly lower than last year for the customers seemed to be streaming in just as fast qnce again we were parked behind the win dow handling money for most of the afternoon and with a small daughter whose main interest was in mer rygorounds and fluffy candy to chaperone later we missed a great deal of interest and a lot of our fair zjressions are gained second hand from those whose e was more free we did hear more than one comment that the hall was at its finest the ladies work section continues to improve in quantity of entries with a prize winning cook in the family this was one place we did take a good look and the pottery demonstrations by mr jesse wyatt and members of the arts and crafts drew many eyes at the armouries entrance school work again took up a good quarter of the hall and it continues to amaze us what the youngsters can do too bad the grade 7 prize winning mural was not back in time from the cnf for many were looking for it increased rnerchant cooperation resulted in many displays in the hall and in a big tent specially erected for this purpose and all exhibitors seemed well satisfied with results attained exhibitors included dick riddall brill s norton floral and rosedale flqral in the big hall and richardsons hardware mcclure home furnishings goodlet s hardware georgetown furniture sales and g r muckart in the tent mr muckart had an interesting lot of pictures of homes and stores wired by him with red seal wiring in the centre of the field georgetown motors hewson mo tors and scott motor sales all had their products on display we missed the leggette brothersfrom oshawa who scored a hit with their riding hope they 11 return next year and well makeit a point to catch their act the stanger midway lived up to expectations not quite as flashy as the cne midway but they kept their prices within range and gave value for the money they promise to be here again next year with the addition of j ferns wheel we dont think the directors of esquesing agri cultural society are expecting any individual praise for another successful show the crowd which turned out tbe best thanks they can receive for a job welldone b is an encouragement to them and to future fair ib6smss to keep on and we might give a vote of 4vbb to our weatherman era batkin who staved ring rainstorm till evening though he gave tcbanertime when a lew raindrops fell press release torn halton federation of agriculture for many years the towns and ci ties were looked upon as the oppor tune place to go lor pleasure and re creation and i his to a certain degree is stifl true but for the vast majority does not give satisfaction go where you will throughout this grand pro vlnce of ontario and what do we find thousands ol people looking for a quiet clen shady spot prefer ably along some stream or lake where they can have a few hours a day or a week of rest and recreation where they can enjoythe cool fresh air and bathe in the clear clean water of some running stream or late all over this province no matter when ou go you will find spots the need for some such spot in halton countv owned and controlled by the fimitrs themselves three ye irs ago when it was suggested a field day und picnic be held the question arol where can can such an t be held in halton county the answer seemed to be in some other county or some private ground this of course v as not sat isractoo id the field day was dropped for that year however the next year the question come up again and it was agreed to hold the field day on the fair grounds milton the only site in halton owned b the fanners of the county the halton agricultural society deserve a great deal of credit for the development or these grounds the society is now on a paying basis and will in the near future be making some fine improve ments however when it came to holding a field day and picnic the fair grounds did not prove entirely satisfactory lacking shade and wa ter both of which are essential for picnics facing up to the problem the di rectors of the federation made a sur vey of the county when it was dis covered that almost all such places in the county where nature had pro ided these naural resources have been taken up and are privately own ed by peoplt other than farmers
