only natural or artificial resource we are lacking is suitable summer swimming gflc is giving deep consideration to the construction of a pool but feels that the heavy cost of such a project at this time would delay the establishment of an over all community program of recreatiqr details are now being discussed with the purpose of forming a boysband to provide an outlet for young musical alent a fall conqert orchestra has tjeen formed and preliminary meetings held in preparation for regular work in the fall a course in leatherdraft was held under grc auspices last fall and itjis plapned to provide similar courses in gem polishing and metal craft in the com- ing winter season pot pourri ken mcmillan who has started his annual round erft horse shows was pleased to read in an article in a toronto newspaper last week that the writer consider ed halton performer among the best in canada the article was about the gait horse show in which halton took second place to wallace munros seaton leader in the hackney horse stake ken incidentally took in the preston horse show last weekend run in conjunc tion with the old boys reunion in that town and brought home a first two seconds a third and a fourth in the gig class in which ken came second the first prize to wallace munro was presented by a former georgetown girl mrs gordon pass louise bullivant whoes husband is also a horseman mr pass who once worked in town for harold mcclure has a furniture store and funeral home in preston another former georgetown boy gordon alcott is in the news these days in his capacity as sports director of gibson park in weston he is promoting the national congress tournament this will decide a canadian winner to represent canada in the softball world series in colo rado this summer teams are entered from such cen tres as toronto london oshawa st catharines and montreal the latter team having bill durnan cana- diens hockey star on the mound we try not to talk about it but it doesnt do any good invariably any conversation these days ends up with someone saying if it would only rain as this is written the sky is again clouding up but this has happened so often that we wont believe it till we see it if readers will phone us the names of their summer visitors or per sonals about their dwn vacation visits it will help us to turn out a newsier paper now and then someone asks what the charge will be for a personal and in case any one wonders there is no charge at all you dp us a service when you tell us your news items though i we dont take the bowmanville weekly paper we- would like to see a postelection copy seems that the editorial partner of the paper is an outspoken conser vative and his partnernephew who has charge of the back shop was the successful liberal candidate in the recent election both take their politics seriously but in this case the editorials werent strong enough to stop the liberal landslide i here are at least three weekly publishers in the new house of commons the rich mond hill publisher being reelected and the seaforth publisher also chosen as a new member we note in the chesley enterprise that editor clayton schaus was disappointed in the recent buffalo convention of the weekly newspaper association and thought too much stress was put on entertaihmcnt at the expense of the business sessions we noticed this in the advance ad vertising and decided to stay home and enjoy a week end in georgetown it is a mistake often made at con ventions to assume that pleasure is the main object we always count on learning something new which will be useful in business and feel cheated if we do not bring helpful information home clnyt was elected to the board ofdirectors so we hope he haaaomething to say about next years program tomorrow night brings a meeting of halton high school district board representatives pf the dept of fducation and of the municipalities of the district as well as georgetown school board and council to discuss the school setsip with georgetowns entry into the district the meet ing will lake place in stewarttown hall an enviable teaching record terminates for principal h s sander- son of chesley public school when he retires after guiding the destinies of the school for 47 years mr sandersons brother a retired school teacher in oak- ville has taken a prominent part in the halton music
