only daughter mary jean became the bride of ot john wesley may son of mr and mrs lawrence may of norval rev j l self officiated for the double ring ceremony the bride wno was given in mar riage by her father wore a floor length gown of embroidered ivory organza her shoulder length halo veil was held in place by s dutch tap of heirloom lace and she car- fled a cascade ot better times roses and white gladioli her only attendant was her cous- sln miss eileen ray of rochester who wore an offtheshoulder gown of pale green taffeta with hooped skirt and carried pink gladioli and vellow poms mr reed hurter was groomsman and miss kay thompson sang through the years accompan ied by kenneth harrison mrs chester received her guests dressed in grey silk faille with burgundy accessories and corsage of talisman roses assisted by the rooms mother in british tan with brown accessories and corsage of yellow roses the wedding supper was served at the yellow briar inn bramp ton after which the young couple left on a wedding trip to montreal and points east the bride travelling in a green wool dress winter white hat and navy accessories with corsage of hibbard roses the young couple will live near norval we wouldnt be surprised if there were people right here in town wno hadhevcr heard ofper- fccpy or apple products glon williams limited and perhaps it has never occur red to you when you buy an apple pie from the baker or when you sample this delicacy in a restaur ant tnat chances are you arc eat ing a product which is processed right in this community glen williams to be exact for it is in the glon that every year twenty thousand barrels of ontariogrown cpplcs are processed and shipped to buyers all owr canada some even reaching the american market the herald print shop has known about perfjcpy for a good many years for at this season the faith ful heidelberg is hard at work printing the labels which identify this product in its pocking can but it was only this weak that wa stopped long enough at the charm ing llttm factory in the glen to have a look at the apple products plant and ask some questions of mr j f lindner who with son bill guides the destinies of a thriv ing business we had heard rumours that mat lindner had invented a new par ing and coring machine which was so superior to others that it was in acmand not only in canada but in the states where dozens of factor ies are engaged in similar process ing the rumors proved to be true and we had a first hand glimpse of the lindner machine in operation it is deceptively simple to watch the eye neea only a circle of spikes on which apples are pinioned by the machine tender whirled around while a knife deftly removes the jacket cored by a plunger and ejected onto a belt for the next process simple parhaps so but it represents four years of hard work on the part of the inventor- owner to develop it to the point where it could be turned over to an engineering firm for perfection this year it is in operation for the first time the machine has an operating capacity of 120 apples a minute it was handling a conservative nine ty a minute at the time compare this with other machines on the market which have a top running speedtjjf fifty and you will have an idea of its efficiency add to fhis a 3 per cent increase in pro duct by cuiidnwh of waste and onethird saving in labour and trimming arid you got a better ldeo of what the lindner paring and coring machine can dp but the top factor which clinches its effi ciency is that for the first time any size ot apple can be handled and no prcsortlng la necessary from apple to pie filling in a matter ot minutes is the story of the apple earning industry for fhis is the length of time it takes for an apple to tour the paring machine be trimmed by one ot the ladles with rubber gloves and sharp knives who yfork jn this depart ment put through the seed cell and quartering machine and the cooker and then with others of its kind placed in a seven pound can which is capped and run through a water cooler still warm the can rolls to the packers where it is labelled crated and packed on the waiting snyders transport truck bound foe a wholesale house or in some cases for direct shipment to the baker t we said above that people might never have heard of perfecpy and there is a reason it is not a retail product and never appears on a grocers shelf its only ad vertisement is in the taste of sat isfied customers and when a busi ness has been turning out the same product for well over twenty years and continues to grow each year the merit of the product proves it self about 73 per cent of the ap ples used are northern spy the balance composed mostly of rhode island greenings and baldwins only ontario grown apples are used the company year runs from september 1st to midmarch and an average ot 33 men and women re employed during this period apples are kept in dry storage in a separate building and conveyed by belts to the processing plant when desired nothing bat tree fruit is used and only apples more sj or more in diameter are pur chased a deep well near the build ing supplies limitless quantities of pure spring water which isused in the pie tilling mr lindner and his father be lore him are veterons in the can ning business the late w a lind ner operated canning plants at weston and at burlington where j f was born grc news lodje meet at ruth evans home i the opening fall meeting of the countess of strathmore chuptcr of the iode was held on monday ev ening at the home of miss ruth evans there were
