streets in an overzealous cpuncueupported campaign to raise funds for the town at the expense of- the good name georgetown has enjoyed for hospitality down through the years to state my authority for such statements about the police will require a little space but it might give somo of the more biased mem bers of your council a little of the other side of the stjuytthe story which shows n poticcmnn even provincial constable ray schlsler can make a mistake and thcrcforo should not be given blanket assur ance that every person he hauls into police court should be con victed on the evening of july 17 of this year i was entering gcor- i getowri from the westerly side when i met a police cruiser trav elling in the opposite direction t looking back in the rear view mir- ljrpi of my ckci noticed him pass me about a block turn around and return in my direction naturally i looked at my speedometer to see i was well within the speed limit i my wife also checked it and i made certain i stayed bblow the 30 mile an hour limit through the town travelling along o 7 high way at the top of the hill near the new subdivision of wartime houses he pulled nhlad of me and told me to stop he also hailed- an other motorist ind told him to stop he was very abusive in his argu ment and had me convicted there and then and anything 1 might say hi my own defence i could sec was going to make him worse and lie would possibly throw the book at me and lock me up as he did another citizen whb dared say anything on his own behalf i as told i was going 55 miles an hour which was ridiculous about three days after my being slopped by the officer i received a summons for speeding but it gave the license number 6id00 and the car i was driving bore tile license bib9it i immediately wrote the magistrate sirting i had never owned nor driven a car bearing thot numbovr in due course i re ceived another summons still with the wrong number so i again wrote the magistrate about the error in license number and sent my own ership card to prove my statement but low and behold in about a months time along came a third summons and yes still the wrong number on it i told the brampton police officer who delivered the summons about the wrong number and ho got in touch with the geor getown oflco and within an hour or so i received a lng distance call from one provincial police officer who soldhe headed the george towndetachment he said he un derstood from bravnptdn the wrong number was on the summons and said he had just checked with tho parliament buildings end found i was not the owner of the car lic ence 03d00 he began to ask me the make and model of my car and i told him he then asked me the color and i told htm i did not ace why i should give him all this in formation because if the officer had been on his proper- efficiency the day i was stopped he would al ready have this information when i vcfubcd further information he said i would have to appear in court then and hung up the receiver realizing the futility of dealing with men so inefficient they couldnt even coirectly read the large sized type on a license plate whlchhto checked at the time nor wofild correct when i gave them two chances by sendlnjpmy license- card i gave ip in disgust- mid paid the fine if a policeman cannot read a license plate correct ly how can he say whether a per son is going 5 or 50 miles an hour when the speedometer reading- is nnich smaller in size it is ridiculous tti think a coun- j cil without any law exrerience is aj oing lo uphold any policeman as their idol and
