still seeking their first win of the season georgetown raiders played a thrilling overtime game with bridgeport vets here oh sat urday before a crowd of 500 fans it was the best game of the year for the locals a heartbreaker to lose for they were leading 32 with a minute and a half to go bad luck struck when dixon was banished to the penalty box and bridgeport put on a powierjtjay which tied up the score in overtime they scored the wlrmfng goal georgetown was greatly strength ened by the return of delly beau mont who has been laid up with and injured hand good news for the fans too is that harvey chap- pel will soon be in uniform again an appendectomy keeping him out l of action since the season opened ill luck still dogged the raiders however when they took a pasting in walkerton monday by the boys from bruce county hepped up by their good game with bridgeport they journeyed to walkerton out for a win but wham 123 for the home team big news on the sports scene is the announcement that jack dang kentner acton sporting star who was a thorn in the flesh of many georgetown teams of old will lend his coaching support to the team from now on if anyone can whip the team into shape it will be dang who has forgotten more hockey than most players ever learn perhaps well see the team click this friday when they seek that elusive win against hespeler here future games story georgetown raiders have en gaged jack kentner better known as dang to coach the team in the intermediate b circuit with bridgeport walkerton hespe- ler and elmira the raiders have found the loop a hard nut to crack as the loss of the first four games would indicate its not the first time ho has coached a georgetown intermediate team several years ago before the last big fuss he was approached to coach georgetown in a playoff series with acton dang instructed the papermakers as they were known then to line up at the the blue line and break up the then feared tanner passing game with heavy checks the system did not make good hockey from a spec tators point of view but it was ef fective georgetown nearly upset the vaunted tanners in that series acton won but it has been since if the georgetown team of stuck explicitly to their instruc tions they would have won hands down and acton would have been faced with the enigma of a man from acton heating his own team an unheard of situation it woiii take more than this space to tell some of dangs hockey exploits he broke into pro rank at an early age with the quebec aces then a bonafide pro fessional team he did stints with various other teams but it was his years with windsor that fired the countrys sxrt headlines an old saw prevalent around acton is that there is more hockey in jack kent ner than in any man around this neck of the woods fans in these parts wont ever forget the playon series with preston in 1948 dang well over 40 at the time went out to help the tanners on defence he had played only a few games dur ing the shcedule and by the time the tanners went into the int u playdowns he was just beginning to get into shape the first 1amk ol the series was played in watei loo a spe cial train left from acton the year previous preston had won the int h champion in the first period preston outplayed the tannois and notched u goal to boot we happened to bo in the press box and it was the opinion of the occupants that said had mayor how they voted ward i ward 2 ward 3 jack armstrong harold cleave dep reeve kenneth macdonald art scott 185 157 226 102 firemen entertain ladies members of the fire
