decision to build new high schools at georgetown and acton and to add a gymnasium to milton school was made at a meeting of north ha i ton high school dlstrw board on thursday in milton the meeting had bean specially called to make a decision on the question wnlch has been hanging fire ever since the school district was formed five years ago last year a similar decision had been made but as new members had julned the board it was decided to reopen the discussion in order that all members might have a part in the decision with two members absent dr j b milne of george town and george cleave of esquea- ng the vote carried unanimously a brief is being prepared for pre sentation to the councils of george town acton milton eaquealng and nassagaweya at an early date for the meeting the board had engaged architect j d kylea to prepare cost estimates of one school and two schools these estimates show that costs of building two schools will be about 840 000 on which a grant of 000 000 is paid by the government cost of operat ing the two schools taking into ac count the issuing of debentures is 84 000 cost of build i jig one school would be 502 000 with s government grant of 420000 there would bo extra expense for installing sewer- age and water service and it is es timated that the annual cost of school operation would be 01 000 the board felt that in spite of a saving of about 25000 a year in operating costs georgetown would be about 5 000 to the good under the present scale of cost splitting there arc more factors in favour of building two schools in he two towns than one school in the coun try it la important to conaldar mist on or both towns might grow to such proportion that a school in the town would be a necessity and in future a school in the country coujd be a white elephant mr kyles based his coat estimates on 15 a square foot which is aver age for present cost of school build ing a sharp rise is noted in the past few years the orangevllle school built under extremely fav ourable conditions coat 0 60 a square foot the proposed schools would each be built for a capacity of 200 pup ils each would include 4 standard classrooms library shop science home economics commercial and nurses rooms gymnasium and ad ministrative offices compared with this years tax levy of 04000 in the district the estimated tax levy including de bentures on an 80 000 gymnasium it milton would total 114 000 a year mlvr kvvuoo eighteen rinks here for thursday bonspiel eighteen rlnka took part in an allday bonspicl thursday at tho arena when georgetown curling club
