they have passed thirty they are no lon ger susceptible to a disease like tuberculosis on the contrary tuberculosis may strike at any age last year half of those who died of the disease were over 30 years of age tuberculosis is a sly enemy itie much- advertised danger signs are not symptoms of early tb but of active advancing disease early tb gives no warning only the xray can find the disease at a time when it is almost always completely curable also contrary to popular belief tb is not inherited it is caused by n certain kind well get there yet it is disappointing to know that there are still difficulties in the way of the threetown high school program which has been in the air so long for georgetown acton and milton for five long years the question has been tossed about on the municipal level the school board itself had difficulty deciding on the pro per solution they first talked of one central school then of two and finally of three and it was only this spring that a final decision was made on a program which would have cost close to a million dollars when some muni cipalities objected to such a major expense the school board revised plans and cut them down to the absolute minimum and arrived at a figure of 555000 which was felt would provide added facilities in the three towns which are absolutely necessary to take care of the increasing school population now the department of education has frowned on gymauditoriums in any of the schools a bittet blow to georgetown par ticularly which has never had such in 75 years of high school history of germ no matter how careful we ate it is not always possible to keep these germs out of the body as long as our resistance pro tects us no harm may be done but no two people react in the same manner wh n i at tacked by disease germs after tb has become active it can take on of two courses if neglected it will ad vance and the patient may die when discov ered early and treatment started quickly it is almost always completely curable every year thousands of 1 b patients return to useful work their disease arrested it is because of these facts that the com ing xray clinic in georgetown is so very im portant early diagnosis is imperative if tb is to be completely stamped out in canada we are of the opinion that a gym and auditorium are a necessary part of a full high school education those who have at tended georgetown high school in the past will tell you that this was the one thing they as students wanted and the thing which they hope their children will have towns much smaller than georgetown have had these fac ilities for years new high schools have been built by the score in the province in the past decade all of them will the finest in gyms and auditoriums there has been a sudden change at queens park a shift to economy both on the part of the new minister of education and of premier frost and north haltons interview about new schools came at a bad time when the new policy had not been clearly defined the school board will be doing all in their power to obtain what they think is necessary for good education in this part of the country and we have not yet given up hope that the program will be given government approval pot pourri correcting an erroneous statement in a news writeup of poppy day results the total of 428 reported as receipts was the tag day total only private
