improving the calendar by deng wrlggleaworth 1 wonder how many of us know that there is s word calendar as sociation which is solely dedicated to the introduction of a world cal endar which will be a vast improve ment upon the present system among the improvements are the following the present calendar has unequal quarters 00 01 and 02 days while the world calendar has equal quarters 01 days each the present calendar has months of irregular length while the world calendar months rim in a regular rhythmatic pattern 31 30 30 31 30 30 etc 1 tie present calendar months vary from 24 to 27 business days while che world calendar months run 26 business days each the present calendar has grass hopping dates never twice in succession on the same week days while the world calendar has days and dates always agreeing from year to year since four quarters of 01 davs each add up to only 364 days every year there is a worldsday dedicated to goodwill cocperation and peace this comes on the day after the 80th of december alan each leap year thcro is a leap year day dedicated also to goodwill cooperation and peace it falls on the day after the 30th of june both these days arc civic world holidays i wonder how many of us would like our birth days on the same day or christmas always on a monday or labour day always monday the 4th of septem ber or easter always on a sunday april the uth this certainly gives us all food for thought if this new calendar is adapted throughout the world it will bo much more efficient than out3 present ralenrtnr system what last years specials are doing pat wiluaa as the result o a thorough search we of tlie competent commercial class lurve unearthed the following jswls concerning the livelihood of our predecessors iat terry is em ployed at micro llastic school and any uctlvltlc- con nected to the school if in my truv- ell throughout this institution 1 wr wtuit i deem to be miscarriage of justice 1 will complain in this column hut on the other hand if some person has done a worthy thing for this ichonl he or she will receive due mention here there fore this column is the representa tive of justice in our school paper my first beef is against the stud ent not all jut a few of the noonhour students vou have re ceived permission to use the double room as your eating establishment during noon hours yet one rainy day several unthinking students with muddy boots left their muddy sig natures in said room you do not act in such manner at home we hoe unci therefore should not ut school if you do not appreciate what la being done for you by the school board look around and with those who appreciate it enjoy it by using common sense and judgment in my opening gxiragraph i sto- ted 1 also gave out praise well id like to praise the teachers for put ting up with the initiation activi ties and the party including init iation especially mrs hess who opened her ltome economics room to the student council to keep the pop cool in the refrigerator and the sandwiches in one place in addi tion she allowed itudcnta to use her room to prepare the sandwiches and cookie fors the party thany you mrs hess some students arc complaining about the rule which prohibits any one from cntciing the school until 1 pm at noon however this should affect the town students very little because surely by the time one is in high school one can judge how long it takes to walk to school and gauge the time accordingly to arrive between one and onefif teen in rain or cold weather this is only common sense students who come by bus to school have the pri vilege of staying within the school all noon hour if they wish but once out may not come back in until one oclock board rules demand noon hour supervision of students and the staft has fqund 99 per cent of th students have cooperated wil lingly- and courteously editorial dob tucther another year oi 3 rs and ft has rolled around with oils new season has come some improvement these being chiefly a new addition to the cus tie and s newly reoguntted high school newspaper the school is being completely reocgunlted as is high tulei thlc uutson many new facs are to be seen on our high tules still including hill llardmuu ai cadet reporter dave carter as photographer cat willson as cum- uterclul spec la u represniiative and sue crabtree choir mctiibct and rrjjorter replacing llev hyde al ong with these are doug wriggles- worth of 2nd form and hot hill as representative lor the first form the system of room rrirts has been utjuikdoncd td be replaced with uaaigned columns by each member of the paper all tills would bo only theory if it were not for mr hlcin of the herald his slendld cooperation and donation of this space also not to be forgotten is our long sultering mr armstrong who along with commercial spec ialists deciphers our writing and traikforms it into typing also this year miss parkinson and principal j i lambert have agreed to help us witli advice end cooperation tto make our undertaking uorth while with all these improvements wc in tend to make this paper something ofwhich chs students can be proud student council plans active 5455 season this year the student council was form at immediately after thtr open ing of the term and efficiently wc hope huidlcd it first major student activity the annusl initiation par ly it is the aim of the council this year to make the best possible use of its facilities and to try to fully represent the students of gils the council is larger than lost year as there are 0 classes now the largest number yet at chs two members were elected from each class and in two meetings plans have been outlined for the new school year ahead which it is hoped will be beneficial for all in gils evenafoew heating system by teiry some of the sveam is used to heat cadet report by bill llardman line up against the wall was the command and georgetown high school cadet corps began another training year the old veterans pre pared to go on parade while the first year cadets stood in a group all with the same blank expression it did not take long however for the recruits to learn the dos and donts of the old army game tho cadeu were divided in two groups first year cadets and sen iors the two groups will remain divided all year with the first year cadets taking basic training such as drill rifle bren sten rocket launcher grenades map using and organization the seniors will take a more advanced course with prac tical work on what they have been uiught last year they will also take lectures on administration or ganization technique of instruction and mutual instruction the second parade night septem ber 22nd the cadets started their regular schedule the first period was a combined drill period under tho command of ll teeter the second period was stripping assem bling and some of the rifle by cjll timleck for the first year cadets trie senior cadets took on technique of instruction the third period was a voice and confidence test for the seniors given by lt teeter whllo the first year cadeta took stripping ami assembly of the sten machino carbine range firing has started with fir ing tuesday hsrt s mackenzie under the skilled super xray eyes of mr prouse and co co means mr prouse and his whistle which lie must have received for christ mas because he continually blows it teams a snd ii andersons and scotts played to a scoreless tie even with 5 minutes overtime then teams c and d which resulted in another scoreleos tie with 5 minutes over time so nobody won nobody lost and everyone had a good hearty and vigorous workout with a few bruis es picked up along the way on the other side of the fence under the pointing fingers of miss parkinson snd mrs hess a volley ball tournament was in progress for the girls but oh my it was a sorry day for the wee formers there was one bouncing eager overjoy ed lass who had finally got the knack of the game she was going to help her team win even if it kil led her the ball had come float ing over the net and ahe braced herself wound up her arm like an aeroplane propeller leaned and with hef wtiole body weight now coming forward like an express train to found that ball she took an ex tremely wlfltcd swing missed threw herself into a flashing whirl and wound up in a volleyball net they lost anyway 2nd form had elimina ted first form and 4th form had el iminated 3rd form then 2nd and 4th form met for the playoffs in a 15 minute time limit in which 4t escaped with a narrow margin of 1710 which isnt bad for 2nd form is it after jlhc three cheers and the boos were heaved there was a brief general square dance on the volly- ball court to end our first sjporls day in ghs history watch for future rugby news the team is shaping up
