only word which carildev scribe the santa claus paradethis year ingebrge- town people are still fetking about the- pf floats which- caught the public fancy with origin- ality beauty and cornedy and the lions and jfiremen have set a high mark to shooratfor next december and one which will be hard to perhaps the best thing of all was the break in weather which allowed the parade to go antasj schedulectr all that morning it poured rain and parade chairman dick riddall and his committee were on tenterhooks wondering what to do arid whether to proceed as if an answer to prayer the rain stopped just before parade time and there was a couple of hours respite before it started drizzling again late inthe atfernoononly xne float was cancelled out because of the rain and the rest showed up in all their finery it showed what can be accomplished by a lot of hard work on the part of the organizers plus generousass jsts from groups who prepared floats tf tsa busy time of year tor everyone and we can appreciate the efforts of those busy people who used their time and talent to provide such a fine afternoon for thepublic fibsem renovatin tojof snjtttt officiated in knox compliments another bouquet goes to all those residents who joinedin the chamber of cornerce campaign of christmas hcrne decorating to turn our town into a real hol iday picture there were those who used large amounts of originality in striving for decorations which joflere different and there were dozens of others who used the more routine ideas lighted trees lights around windows and doors a candle in the window it was confusing it was quite a week of explanations when the herald failed to make its customary appear ance the wednesday after new years we thought we had fully explained that the two wednesday issues were being advanced to saturday because of the tuesday holidays but habit dies hard and when the paper did not show up in mail boxes thursday morning there was a flood of enquiries which continued right up to saturday morning for those who may think they missed an issue we explain again that there really were three heralds issued in the three weeks one on dcember 1 9th one on dec 22nd and another on dont let it happen an editorial in the wipgham advancetimes points the danger of small towns losing theatres unless attendance is boosted the trouble is says the wing ham editor thakmany people sit home glued to their tv i sets anvlfont realize how big and beautiful a real movie ran be r our local movie house is in the same boat with others in the country its playing firstrate firstrun pictures in cinemascope and colour to a handful of people those that see the pictures enjoy thern but not enough people see them r it would be a sad loss for georgetown if the local theatre was forced to close because of lack the sum total added up to a pretty picture and those w t an evening to tour the town to view results were welil rewarded for their trip perhaps the most impressive sight of al was- the dominion seed house with its huge lighted stsr lighted trees and clever use of blueand red floedlightsor the building it commanded atten tion from the streams of higrtway traffic and the seed house management deserves a special word of thanksfor their fine contributionlo the christ mas scerte dec 29th the latter two were those which nor mally would have transpired since the stone office before her marirage lastpublication the experiment was successful for us at least ill was the first time that two papers had been issued in one week and it was with crossed fingers that we pushed into a second issue even before the december 1 9fh one was off the press we made it on schedule however and the her ald staff had two nice holiday weekends to relax after a busy december of customers it would be another light out in a a town which needs all the lights it can muster we havent reached that stage yet but it could happen as it has in such towns as pa inver sion the local movie house is a private enter prise and it can only operate at a profit but it is also a community place of entertainment and as such should be supported by the community why not make a new year resolution to tear yourself away from tv two or tnree nights a the brjde chose a gown which featured a white lace bodice with mother of pearl trimming sweet heart neckline long sleeves youttnarcoal lace dress with turquoise be doing your theatre and- your com unity a f av our and youll wonder how you could have sat home viewing those corny oldlate shows when a little theatre perhaps appearance of the brampton players here next week sets us wondering again if a loc lit tle theatre group could not be formed at least one georgetown couple are interes- ted for- mr ana mrs ron brighty are members of the group and were instrumental in bringing the play to town if others who would i iu o lo act in batricals7or who have faent for scenery design lighting or other behindstage activities would in dicate such interest to the brightys perhaps it would be the start there is nothing better for a town than an active dttle theatre it is a cultural force which brings pleasure not 6nly to participant- but to everyone for the resulting public performances can be highlights of a towns entertainment i ihereisatways talent oh haod witness a little town like elora which boasts a dramatic group second to none in ontarib similar talent can be developed here and it would be a happy day when georgetown could make an entry in the dominion drama festival meanwhile we hope the brampton players will be greeted- with a full house nextthursday your attendance wijl have double value for be- sides an evening of entertainment you will be as horn r sisting georgetown hospital association
