war b broke out he was one of the first local men ea enlist and went overseas in 1940 with the lorne scots serving until his discharge in 1943 since then he had lived in georgetown washago and brampton he was a member of the local legion branch surviving are bis wife a daugh ter nancy mrs gordon copeland brampton and a son george h of washago four gnuidchildren sheila and jeanette copeland james henry and wayne ferry and brothers and sisters in eng land mrs av appleton and miss mary ferry sunderland robert ferry of fence houses durham mrs jack davison of carlisle cumberland and george friday at the david a mcclure funeral home brampton paubearers were geo savage brampton and five friends from georgetown charles led- widge james yates james mur phy cliff stacey and herb harlow sr attend anniversary for historic stone church rev and mrs alex oalder had a most interesting sunday this week when they attended the one hundred and twentyfifth anniver- services of the old stone church in bcaverton mr calders birth place the old stone church was the was ill mrs first in the district it was built rteth richardson and nurses and f worship by a small group of staff of guelph general hospital scottish settlers who came from for many kind thoughts and t isle of islay off the coast of scotland who had first settled in north carolina but being dissat isfied with the slave question they moved up to thorah township the church itself isof rectangu lar shape built of stone it has a gallery all around it box pews and an elevated pulpit it has never been painted and there is no modern lighting and true to the old belief there is no musical instrument in the building the services being lead by a precentor or a choir without musical accom paniment the old church is us ed now only for occasions such as minister accepts call to athens christian reformed the local christian reformed church is still without a minister recently the congregation ex tended a call to rev peter kron- ebburg a recent graduate of cal vin seminary grand rapids mic higan who preached here one sun day in july mr kronenburg informed the congregation this week that he has decided to accept a call to the church at athens ndrth of brock- ville which has been without a pastor for some time rapid growth of the church in canada has resulted in a serious shortage of ministers and there is no in dication of any immediate appoint ment locally at present receives diploma for traffic training course cst neb trafford of the local police force received notification by mail last week of his success in the may exams at the ontario traffic training conference in toronto accompanying the let ter stating that he had passed every test was a diploma from the conference which was held at the university of toronto from may 13th to 24th cst trafford attended the traf fic training course to gain infor mation on the lateit techniques accident taveatigatira and traffic control included in the course u was criminal traffic work tickets and minor violataona mvostgation the course was attended by police officers from the united states as deeds while i clare francis isley we wish to thank the neighbours of the sixth and eighth lines friends and rela tives for their many expressions ol kindness sympathy mass cards and floral tributes during our recent loss of a husband and father mrs isley and fa mily manning i would like to thank all the neighbours and other friends for their kindness to me when i was injured and while i was in the guelph gen eral hospital i would like to thank them wallace 32 shelley st who is associated with his brotherinlaw lloyd marks in operating the canadian tire store here she was a native of perth scotland widowed when frank was a baby she came to canada with her three sons and settled in london her oldest son james predeceased her surviving are her sons squire who is postmaster at dorchester and frank george town one brother george gowans of london who is the last surviv ing member of a family of 15 11 grandchildren and one greatgrand child burial was in dorchester on july 29th inebriated cyclist nabbed by police just three weeks after the con viction of a drunk motoixycust picked up by the local police after bussing cars at the john street culvert the opp nabbed another inebriated cyclist on the number 10 sideroad south of town this one was a little leas dangerous however since he was peddling a bicycle alberta where he will visit for two weeks with flying officer j p wilson and family mr and mrs john young and daughter rosemary 10
