crosse days in acton frank mac intosh 8l and eddie ryder 78 were not only members of the same teams but friends as well one young man was rarely seen without the other they share a wealth of memories about their experiences in local sports which included baseball and hockey and in mcintoshs case running for which he won numerous me dais besides playing lacrosse for ac ton ryder and macintosh hoist- erf their sticks for gait midland and woodstock i suppose he could write a book about those old days declared macintosh eddie do you remember the time we played the tuscarora indians in 1898 eddie ryder remembered hail ing from a reserve at caledonia the tuscarora indians swept on to the lacrosse field fierce and colorful with long tangled locks and uniforms decorated at strate gic points mostly on the seat of the shorts long shorts in those days with buffaloes and totem poles they were a wildlooking crew but we licked them in 1901 playing for gait the two local athletes met headon with the touring oxfordcambridge la crosse team whose players were described as fine big fellows the pick of the two english colleges who could have made two of ed die or myself who won the canadian team of course but when mcintosh and ryder reminisce mostly in their memories is that provincial championship of 1899 and the smaller triumphs that lead to it first the acton team had to beat gait and
