branch something we appreciate he gave the branch a record play er some time ago when the new pa system went in he did embar rass us recently though the after noon of the remembrance supper we were scheduled to give the toast to the fallen comrades and decided to use a record play ing last post and reveille which was just fine but we found the record an odd size and had to hunt around for a player harold loaned us a really super hifi set which was just dandy uolil j we tried to get it to play and couldnt get it to worksthen wc called on the president who had even less luck so finally in des peration we phoned bev moody at smith and stone who came down loked at us as if we wcie a bunch of nit wits and promptly played the record the moral of the story is when next we borrow a modern hifit set from wheel er we wint an electrical engin eer thrown in at the same lime but we arc wandering far away from the turkey shoot arent we things are all set its to be on che friday night before christmas in the armory under the joint aus pices of the legion and c company lome scots wc now have sev eral turkeys ducks chickens etc and more to come its a mixed shoot so bring the wives for a niht that will be just a bit different the christmas tree is only one week away thursday december 18th at 7 pm wc hope every par ent will get out with their children to see old st nick we recently had a press interview with him at his headquarters and he says he is feeling well he looked well at the time and is looking forward to visiting georgetown legion post according to him last year the de mand on electric trains and palo mino ponies was just so heavy that he couldnt quite make it but he hopes to do better this year wc might particularly say to newer members be sure and bring the kiddies for a lot of fun gob col lier took over the chairmanship on the retirement of charlie day he has an able committee and wi do a great job wc hope that once again the place will be jam packet with parents and children the date is thursday december 19th and this year we hope to see a real float representing the branch in the santa claus parade next saturday iast year due to a mis take in the length of time needcvl to obtain decorations etc branch 120 was not represented howevc this year it was decided to sarl early enough to have everything in top line order but since the nii-cl- inr a comparatively new member volunteered his services and took the job on he now reports every thing well under way with a com plcte cast of characters and great characters loo and feel confident that potentialities you have until you meet them and find out what they can db the new years eve party will be held on new years eve again and we anticipate a huge crowd our good friend the entertain ment chairman jim murphy says everything is in fine with an or chestra laid on food favours etc and we might remind 100 pec person this year as or dered by a motion at your gen eral meeting in october this is something we feel duty bound to remind members of the time about ten oclock to 103d wed say and there will hej top flite entertainment- as sone commander we receivp notices from most of the branefc- esxlid we were quite interested mrparing for our party j on new years eve we believe that one is 700 per couple one 600 and three 500 so jure really feel that the 100 is what might be termed a reasonable figure for our party and still the applications for membership come in keep it up fellows and we hope soon to re port a membership of 500 a rec ord in the lone at least a pres ent we are leading the lone in membership being slightly ahead of oakville and port credit it is with a great deal of regret that we hear of the resignation of earl holmes zone sports officer he has tyithout a doubt been a tow er of strength to the zone and will- be sadly missed he is now secret tary of port credit branch and has a number of other offices sw just hasnt time to help we will miss your organizing ability and en thusiasm very much earl eddie mcdcrmott and his good wife are off to the old country for a few weeks we believe they left earlier this week had an interesting chat with bert smith former owner of the port credit weekly last monday evening he was a long time of ficer with the lornc scots and a commanding officer with one of the veterans guard units during the last war he knew marry men locally who had served un der him he asked to be remin ded to them and wished them the best in the future bert has al ways been a keen iegion mem ber and a tower of strength to the port credit branch he told us many amusing stories of his associations with local men while serving in uniform rec ently having sold his paper he still finds himself working as hard as ever at the port credit paper jl new industry cnr station master john elliott received an enquiry tuesday re garding the possibility of a rail road siding to the old papertiiill a firm is considering locating there he turned the request over to the cnr engineering dept high school girls net 300 at bazaar a profit of well over 300 was realised t by the students of grade 12 and commercial special as the result of a very successful christ mas jbaxaar at the high school laef thursday evening many of the articles for sale were the work of the students while other booths offered items donated by local merchants ope of the main fea tures of the bazaar was the raffle for three very worthwhile prizes mrs grace reid of acton won a harn mrs vera mccumber a sweater and mrs john lenz a box of groceries there was also a guessing contest at the sputnick booth which was won by mrs stan wright edith st contestants here had to guess what was in side the sputnick the committee heads and their booths respectively were agnes nelson dry goods karen norton sputnick virginia walker bak ing marilyn h estop penny sales sue whiimee candy betty avery and carola connely touch arid auo tale take there were auo booths sponsored by high tales the challenge and library and headed by marilyn souther judy mccum ber and bob crawford tnr raffle was handled by gail smith and ruth macdonald and anne hum phreys was convener of those serv ing tea betsy lucas was in charge of arrangements and advertising all- the items were sold at the bazaar which lasted from s0 until 10 pm one more advertising issue and the two seasons
