11 not be earning much more and he will still be doing the same job there is no ad vancement of any kind here but if this same boy had so much as obtained his senior matriculation there is no telling where he could go he could work m a factory to day tomorrow if he liked he could further his education and acquire a bachelor ot arts or sci ence degree he could then enter any field scientist doctor law yer or engineer then he would have a good pa ing dependable job man students claim thev quit school because their parents can not afford to send them to uni j versity if this is the cae thev i are the evening of fndaj march vidson hd mcmuilm catherine 13 the graduating class of george- hunter stewart bottomlej town high school held its spring formal called the stardust ball at the howard vtngglesworth auditor the music nas supplied bv a band from guelph under the direction of mr ben alexander the band was a 5 piece consisting of drums trumpet guitar alto sax and elec trie organ the band was well re ceived and because of its good rep ertoire and the characterization by the trumpet plajer it appears that most of those present would be in favour of having them back ag ain the decorations were exception all good and it exemplified the in genuity of ljnn scott who created most of the ideas it consisted of a false ceilung of cheesecloth be decked with thousands of stars of many colours two 6 foot stars of gleaming aluminum foil were also m view one of which was surroun ded by strings of blue lights that added a dreamy atmosphere to the dance all in all decorations are said to be the best of all our form als a new custom was inaugurated at this dance however and that is the crowning of the queen of the ball robert hooper last years president of the student council crowned miss virginia walker queen and presented her with a dozen red roses and a check to be used in the furthering of her edu cation all during the dance punch and cookies were being served in the hall under a veil of more blue light just to add to the mood of stardust mr r m turkington a profes sional photographer from town was present and it is hoped that a picture of the queen of the ball
