show was in pro gress the show was presented by the young adult group of st pauls united church long branch and there were about thirty members of the group present the variety show consisted of nine selections and skits most of them of a hum orous nature while waiting for sdme of the visitors who were a bit late in arriving the residents were entertained by mr jim wells who played a number of favourite oldtime ballads as piano solos when all the visitors had arrived mr arnold stewart who acted as chairman for the evening brought greetings fronttis group and-in- troduccd the first number this was a very pleasing vocal solo sailing thru sung by mrs mary blackford with mrs marg ballan- tyne at the piano later in the program it was requested that mrs blackford sing again and this time she sang so still the night and santa lucia two male quartettes provided both har mony and amusement for the aud ience the first quartette with arnold stewart jim wells roy mccabe and don blackford as its members sang a number of old favourites such as smiles and memories the members of the second quartette which was of the barber shop variety were gar bed in long white nightshirts and tasselled night caps and wore a variety of moustaches they cau sed much laughter when from a recumbent position on the dining room floor they sang the old fav ourite its nice to get up in the morning these gentlemen were norm jones jack robinson john cohoon and maurice ballantyne henry heald accompanying himself on his guitar sang a number of songs among them theres a certain kind of jingle to my spurs and the very amusing song human nature he also led the audience in community singing he too was recalled by request to sing again later in the evening and this time his numbers were jimmy crack corn and the cowpokes carol a chorus of fourteen young ladies dressed in attractive costumes to suit the four seasons of the year sang songs suitable to those four seasons such as shine on harvest moon and in the good old summer time a chorus of five ladies and five gentlemen dressed in stylish costumes sang the popular song easter parade in a skit based on the song honeybun from the musical comedy south pacific adele cohoon sang this song and was assisted by a crorus of six ladies and by honeybun himself most of these numbers were accompanied at the piano by mr harold lowel the pleasure felt by- the audience in hearing this tuneful and amusing program was continued during the social hour that followed the program when tea and fancy cakes and coo kies were served a choral concert by a choir that was small in numbers but very re markable for the fine vocal selec tions presented was given at the manor on thursday evening april 16th by the choir of first bap tist church in georgetown there were twelve ladies and gentlemen in the choir which had been train ed by mr douglas peck and their lovely singing reflects great cred it upon his leadership the ac companist mrs walter towncnd also played a large part in the pre sentation of this fine concert rev r il whan the minister of the church camo with the choir and after all had been welcomed by mrs allen he extended greetings from the choir to the residents the concert opened with the choir and the audience singing two fa miliar hymns in unison after which the choir sang as the firj of their beautiful anthems lie lives part of
