the georgetown herald foukteb pages authorized second clan mail pott offic of ottawa georgetown ont wednesday may 6th 1959 hrst section letter carrier service ready to be inaugurated in town f another phase of georgetowns growth will be reflected later this year in inauguration of letter car- jier service for all georgetown homes the herald was informed this week by sandy best mp of the decision at ottawa- lhat george town is now ready for operation of such a system door to door delivery will be inaugurated as soon as 90 per cent of those to be served have instal led suitable receptacles for their mail says mrbest as a temporary measure to alle viate terrific overcrowding of pos tal facilities last fall postmaster harold marshall secured a num ber of group mail boxes which have been serving the newest por tion of the delrex subdivision since before christmas otherwise residents have been calling at the down town post office for their mail which they receive either from rental boxes or over the counter when no box is rented it is anticipated that a number of people will still retain post boxes particularly merchants and industries who require as fast re ceipt as possible of daily mail it is evident that any system of deli very cannot be as fast as present ly as mail must be presorted into routes and mailmen start on their rounds sufficiently early in the morning to cover their territory- the new sytem will employ a number of letter carriers says mr best and the postal authorities will be asking for applications for these jobs in due course a percentage of subdivision hou ses are already equipped for deli very with doorway slots installed by the builders when these are not so installed it will be up to each householder either to have such a slot punched in their front door or to provide a convenient box into which mail can be plac ed with mr bests announcement residents can immediately lay plans for receptacles dixie minister preaches glen united anniversary
