the christmas meeting of the wms was held on tuesday afternoon december the 1st at the home of mrs wilfred bird with the president opening with a short christmas sage and the hymn gentle mary laid her child secretary mrs cecil wilson read the minutes of the november meeting and called the boll which was answered by a bible verse thought on love the secretar ies of the different departments gave sung mrs livingstone introduced and later thanked the speaker of the evening mr batten a red cross representative from hamilton who told many inter esting facts about the society he told how the red cross ia a symbol of humanitarian serv ice although some countries cannot accept it because of cer tain beliefs and a re dcrescent or ed lion and sun are the sym bols in those countries the first red time spent by the members strong shorthorn herds at royal as usual the strong short horn herds of halton and wei linglon counties made a fine vhowing at the royal winter fair the scotsdale herd of s g bennett georgetown exhibited the senior and grand champ ion bull rothney juggler win ner in the mature class the senior yearling bull class was also a bennett win with scots- dale meteor who was a son of a former winter fair champion scotsdale jupiter the junior bull class was also won by bennett with scotsdalt hal i son of the champion jug- glw the summer yearling heifer class was won by bennett with scotsdale naomi rosebud later named reserve junior female j champion at the conclnsioa of the show mr bennett named premier breeder as well as premier exhibitor from milton the herd of r vi gardhouse supplied the champion shorthorn steer and the reserve grand champion of the show this 880 pound animal sold at 60 per pound to essex packers in the breed mg classes the gardhouse senior yearling heifer aber feldy golden shred 2nd was named reserve senior champ ion ofnhe show george l lasby guelph had a winner in the junior heifer class with laslynnturn beauty this was a sister of aj former cn grand champion other herds from this area applying strong competition were those of harry hender- shott milton w h merry and son milton and t c amos moffat the shorthorn show at the royal
