1961 editorial comment miss the musical festival report of music festivals involving children in georgetown rural areas and m in neighbouring towns mokes us think of j the days when this was a town highlight j a few years ago georgetown drop- ped out of the county festival partly be- j cause for years we had dominated the prize j hst and partly because of the staff work involved in preparing the youngsters for he competition it is too bad because experience gain- ed by entering a festival fs invaluable to a f young parson who values a musical duca tion many of the youngsters we have heard in the past are now soloists with 1 unsung heroes of the press church choirs at least one later joined the leslie bell singers and one in the mendelssphn choir others have been successful as teachers but even more im portanl a number ot people have ncher lives through eiioyment of their own mus ical talents at home a county festival is too large scale an event today perhaps but locally we see no reason why there could not be a town festival taking in the five public and the separate school and the high school ellent ptoiect for a thei it would be an e ice club lo spouse nselves to organn in a into a more attractive thoroughfare tko work entails relocating certain essential ser vices prior to the big ob of resurfacing and laying new sidewalks later this sum mer present plans still in the formative stage call for one maor change it is planned to move the street light ing standards into the middle of the street creating a boulevard effect with one way traffic on each side and parallel parking on both sides thus eliminating the present angle parking on the west side of the street sidewalks and roadway will be resurveyed to cut down the present high curbs side walks may be slightly narrowed to allow as much as possible travel surface for cars one problem to overcome will be the fact that in the boulevard there will only be one traff c ai e ctcn vay it s quire customary ai presei
