commission one of the best known ladies in the community has officially retired from her rcipomible position but is remaining on duty for a few weeks to ac quaint the new secretarytreasurer a graham farnell with ih multiple details of the position although the h not a native of georgetown mrs reid bolt upon the community as her hometown and has been a widely known highly respected resident for some 40 yean sh cme to the ccmmunity in 1925 after her marriage to j p reid who took over a hardware business established by hit father in georgetown more than a clntury ago th s bus lness ttarted in the 1850 s was in the premises built by the late mr reid t father and is now owned by goodie t s economy hardware on main street south born in gait mrs reid graduated from gait col leg late institute and entered the business world working first in a lawyer t office ana then at secretary in a manufactur ing but in 1 1 later the be cm an assistant to the frea turar in tha gait municipal office and was alto secretary for tha gait water work commission after her mar riage lb lived in toronto for a few yaart and was actively angaged in the custom brok- at rage business cam to georgetown in 1933 appointed secretary- treasur er on may 1st hmd when miss ryan retired after serving in hat position since the inception 6f hydfo in georgetown in the year 1012 many chances a great many changes in tha georgetown uydro system have been witnessed by mrs reid during the quarter century that she hubeen associated with the municipal hydro system much of this la due to the phen owonat growth that has taken place in georgetown during that period she has teen the con structlon of two new substa- tlous and the rebuilding of the lines to serve the customers wore efficiently the growth la themunielpal hydro system la reflected in come of tho fig ures that are available from tha records when the george- town hydro was established w year gd the revenue in that connected load amounted to 58 horsepower 48 kw and there was a mere handful of custom ers compared with today when mrs raid started to work for georgetown hydro in 1038 vthere were some 700 customers the peak load was about 1000 kw and the annual revenue was 48000 a half century after its inception georgetown hydro revenue for last year was 440 450 and the peak load amounted to approximately 8800 kw remarkable human relations one of the most significant features about mrs reid a as sociation with georgetown hy dro has been her remarkable human relations and outstand ing public relations work on bcalf of the municipal hydro commission she always has been dedicated to her work mr traham j- or nail her successor points out mrs itcid has been conscientious and hard working that she often would continue 14 and is hours a day in emergencies to make sure thst everything in the business office was uptodate she- even sacrificed many weekends and holidays to do the hydro work in very busy periods her energy has not seemed to dim irish over the years and she appears to thrive and take a special delight in arronrphshing her tasks thoroughly and in helping a customer with prob lems flood op letters evidence of her goodwill and consideration for the customers is reflected nl the flood of let ten that arrived at mrs raids dthk since an announcement was made a short time ago about her impending retirement many of those letters have come from customers from whom she has had to collect accounts but these messages were a real tribute to her friendly understand nil help ful attitude and common sense approach to the problem of collecting overdue hydro ac counts and dealing with other pressing matters for customers it hit been said of mrs reid by commission members that she always managed to mako satisfactory arrangements to collect these overdue accounts and in doing so was able to tactfully work out ssitufoctory arrangements with the custom ers so that she kept their friend ship and goodwill she has personally of toronto who is a former industrial nurse and she hopes to have mure time to villi her diugfe trr this summer mrs reid plans to be active on the golf course and take advantage of the good weather to golf more frequently she has been chartrr member of the north hilton golf and country club since its establishment in 1054 playing golf whenever she could find time mrs reid has pued the game as she
