georgetown district high school annual formal dances should not be open to outsiders and part of the school ahoold not be prohibited from attending the dance should not be a formal since this stipulation tends to eliminate many of the student body because it is financially impossible for them those were the views expres sed by gdhs principal donald turner when he addressed high school board trustees on chan ges being made in the high light of the school s social year this term in past years the student council which arranges the function has invited graduates out of high school for one two and three years but excluded students of grades 9 and 10 the student council and mr turner agreed to a compromise this year by which the entire student body will be eligible to attend plus last years grad uates and their dates some of the senior grade stu dents objecting to the policy change have threatened to boy cott this years formal and hold one of heir own outside the school the board members agreed wholeheartedly with mr turn ers thinking inviting the entire school is the democratic way of doing things and your idea of making it semi formal a style of dress all should be able to afford is a good one trustee e ec hall commented mail bag economy now then how about new water tower georgetown ontario 31 byron street february 18th 1966 to the editor the georgetown herald georgetown ontario dear mr editor so georgetown councillors are crying about not having money to spend on town proj ects this year well they never shed any tears last year when they voted to spend 340 000 over the next 20 years for a water tower which was not necessary at the present time i have never said that the wa ter tower was not something that it would be nice for the town to have but the town could have waited until some of the new industnes made necessary and the added asses sment would have made it easier to pay for however council members will have to tighten the corpor ale spending belt and will have to forego necessary spending because of the unbridled spend ing of last year mayor joseph gibbons is to commended on his last ditch fight against the tower which of course had the endorsation of the majority of council and the ontario municipal board whose duty it is to prevent municipalities from getting in to just tte position georgetown finds itself today yours truly
