degree he was called to the ontario bar in 1963 and since then has been associated with the law ann of hacmillan rooke mac- lcnnan avery langdon in 9 toronto he is married to the former lleleanor bevington of toronto a university of toronto gradu ate who until last june taugh mathematics at richmond hill high school they have one daughter sharon elizabeth born last december mr langdon is the eighth member of his family to choose a career in law k a langdon his grandfather the late h x langdon practiced in brl ghton and all four of bis sons became lawyers two beci magistrates mr langdona father and bis uncle the late w 0 langdon mr langdon has two cousins who are pres ently lawyers in toronto it is interesting to note that the practice in which mr hel son and mr langdon will be associated was originally begun here by kenneth m langdon in the thirties mr langdon re tired from active practice fu teen years ago si mr helson has earned on practice in georgetown since 1957 when be was called to the bar at osgoode hall he is a graduate of the ontario agric ultural college now univer sity of guelph where be maj ored in chemistry and was president of his graduating class he worked for baxter lab oratories of canada ltd was chief chemist and opera tions manager at the time he left the firm to study law mr helson is married to the former margaret hoare who has been halton county health unit met in georgetown mon day night and drafted a press release containing the steps which led to their resignations sept 12th it follows since 1961 working condi tlons for public health nurses in halton county health unit have been unsatisfactory on occasion individual nurses have been refused the right to talk over their problems with the board of health due to this jn- rest a representative from the registered nurses association of ontario was sent to talk with the nurses and the board of health in the hope that griev ancea could be settled the board at this time refused to talk with this professional rep resentative three years passed and griev ances were not worked out the halton county public health nurses again looked to their professional association an organization in which all nurses were expected to bold membership for help in 1964 a delegation of public health nurses sat down with their rnao leaders to discuss cur rent problems in their working situation from this meeting a brief was drafted outlining the many difficulties of nurse- employer relationships and the struggle within the nursing profession this brief was sign ed by alt nurses employed by halton county and was sent to dr bull the medical officer of health and to members of the board of health this is the pntssstonal isao elation which our board of health win not recognise as repeated ceoununication with the board brought no res ults the nurses asapctauon of halton county heffth unit ap plied for certification under the labour relations act on aug llth 196s the night before the halton county board pas sed a resolution declaring sec tion 80 of- the labour relation act which states than any em ployee or group of employees is denied the privilege of bar gaining with their employer is this the board who u ready and wiling to sit down over prob lems with the nurses in september 1965 the as sociation sent a letter to the board requesting voluntary ne gotiations bpt no reply was re ceived three letters were sub sequently sent to dr bull and the board in june asking that voluntary collective bargaining ensue wnbout delay the board refusedmo sit down with our association on these terms and is now asking the nurses to become certified u a union if they want to talk about work lug conditions due to this captive riuatlon twenty two of the public health nurses of halton county health unit banded in their resigna tions effective sept 12 i960 we are concerned with getting communications started to set tie grievances in order that work can be carried on as soon as possible at present this long lasting dispute is not set tled nor has any mechanism been set up whereby problem can be settled long enough to read what this is all aboutl your
