acclaim hale for- second term as branch president i norval by ralph hawes the highlight of this column has to be tie election of officers for branch 120 elections were held sunday june 8 at 2 pm although there were four per sons nominated for the office of president comrade henry hale took over the office for his sec ond year by acclamation bruce collins secured the position of 1st vice president this will be bruces second year norm ward will serve his first year as 2nd vice president by accla mation six members sought a place on tho executive four were elected in this order r hawes p- chamberlain r stephens a roberts when the aew executive takes over the reins many appointments will be made for there are many committees to be chaired comrade lloyd boyd will be sorely missed this coming year lloyd whp id the past has been a hard working member of the executive was 2nd vice presid ent of the outgoing executive co chairman of the car club canteen chairman house chair man and a full tune helper for the ways and means committee he declined to stand for office this year for personal reasons however knowing lloyd as we do we feel sure you will see him around helping with this and that when help is needed speaking of lloyd he was busy on saturday cleaning up tee and a board of directors is being set up the committee it is hoped will include brian mcfarlane bob goldham and two from georgetown legion while the board of directors will include allen battle gord grey len self two from georgetown and two from the branch good publicity at the first dinner meeting of the little nhl hall of fame it is hoped to have representa tives from toronto newspapers radio and television monday sept 8 has been suggested as a tentative date for the meeting there has been no grass grow ing under the feet of gord al- cott since we last spoke to him he has secured the blessings of minister john munro and clar ence campbell and the hall of fame is on its way with it will go much good publicity for the town of georgetown and branch 120 we will be keeping readers informed from time to time as this wonderful under taking materializes back at the branch the fri day night dart hasj and j met once with gordon but he has been busy organizing this terrific undertaking a commit- the display window of what was the bakeshop next door to the branch in the window lloyd has on display the car crab car and a nice looking car it is at the completion of the present draw a new and better draw will begin with bigger prizes and a superior make of car anyone interested should con tact a captain now lounga permit there is a lot of speculation around the branch regarding the so called lounge permit which has been granted to le gion branches throughout ont ario no one seems to also the friday night dart shoot perhaps the members should investigate the many pros and cons of the stipulations included in the privileges the branch will have should the per mit be applied for it was tuesday april 8th of this year that gordon alcott ap proached the branch executive with information about the lit tle nhl hall of fame at that time we mentioned it briefly in this column education now and tomorrow in talk by school principal less donors seek more for next blood clinic with the sew arrangements at the red cross blood donor clinic on monday at the holy cross church auditorium the at tending 327 blood donors were looked after very smoothly and another hundred could have been handled very easily with out waiting periods in the afternoon 156 persons blood at work out of town the chairman of the georgetown district red cross blood donor clinics mrs c a thompson is making an urgent appeal to ask all healthy persons to make a note of the september and december clinic dates and to try to come out so that donors who left town and those who offered their blood of which cannot donate blood anymore 15 were rejected in the evening because of age limit 65 or other 20 of the 171 persons offering i reasons will be replaced were rejects which made it a monday nignt the b don clinic collection of only 292 i volunteers and staff enjov it was a good clinic but not ej the live norval womens institute was held on thursday evening june 5th at the home of mrs don murrky following the de licious meal mrs joe murray presided for the meeting the roll call was answered by naming one of your public school teachers and most recal led amusing incidents that hap pened during school which made the roll call very interesting mrs harold gollop and mrs vera taylor education conven ers were in charge of the pro gram mrs wm cromar gave a couple of humorous recitations the principal of park school in georgetown mr peter oprica gave a very interesting talk on education past present and future he stressed the impor tance of good teachers in the early years of a childs life and explained many of the new me thods of teaching today mrs keith webb gave the courtes ies mrs w graham reported that a little 6 year old girl in hong kong has been adopted by the group and showed her pic ture mrs h chester mrs don murray and mrs amy burk were appointed to be in charge of the picnic to be held on the 2nd sunday in august in place of the usual date in july conveners were requested to hand in their programs for the year in two weeks so that they can be printed norval united church and home united church combin ed for their sunday school pic nic which was held on sunday june 1 at pjnegroye community hall all report a yery enjoy able day in spite of the morn ing rain a pot luck lunch was enjoyed inside and by that time the weather had cleared and an afternoon of races and sports followed this is the 3rd year for norval united church to hold their picnic there there is no long tiring drive no wor ry about children near water no hunting for participants for the races as they are right there not wandering around a large picnic area a social afternoon of fun and games is enjoyed in a relaxing atmos phere norval united church was full for the anniversary service held on sunday morning june 8th with rev hc brelthaupt of copksvllle as the guest spea ker the adult choir and the teen choir under the direction of the organist mrs margaret ridley provided special music mrs joyce hutton was the guest soloist we welcome back to the vil lage mr and mrs robert craw ford jack and patricia they have moved into their lovely new home at the top of the hill on the south side of no 7 highway east of the village near the new home of their son bob and elaine and three dau
