we decided it was high time to acquaint these ap parently misguided individuals with the facts of the disastrous occurrence five missing photo graphs from the december 4 issue of the herald i the herald is printed in brampton and photographs are transferred from georgetown to there by mail bus or deliver- ed in person a package con taining these five went astray j through no fault of the herald i and was discovered so late tha it was impossible to tin any thing but print that issue with pictures missing i after bathing in the aura of the brilliant criticisms which exuded from the pens of mr hildebrandt and mrs newman it is our great privilege to call upon a quotation which we ex tracted from mrs newmans brief smarten up please mr hildebrandt and mrs newman in addition if they find it an overwhelming burden to comply j with the increment in price we offer two solutions we will gladly pay the increased 5c per issue so that these citizens will not be denied the pleasure of reading seasons greetings to our many wonderful customers we wish the best of holidays for letting us serve you our thanks merry christmas and happy new year orval norman sheas garage norval halton county council last week did an abou4ace and came out strongly in support of a superanetrotype haltonpeel region until last weeks vote council had been supporting a sep arate halton region the motion which will be sent to municipal affairs min ister darey mckeough includes the condition that burlington ba included in the twocounty region mckeough originally proposed the twoiered haltbnpecl region in january but- until last week had been unable to get ihe support of halton council peel has not yet taken a stand on his proposa the weighted voted based on population of the various halton municipalities was 286 in favor of the haltonpeel reg ion of the 14 county councillors five voted against the mot ion these included the representatives of nassagaweya and acton the two halton municipalities with the smallest popula tions esquesings deputyreeve thomas hill also voted against the motion but reeve george currie the county warden mp- ported it representatives of oakville burlington milton and georgetown backed mckeough on earlier votes only oakville and georgetown representatives voted for the proposed merger warden currie said before the vote was taken this is the most important item you have voted on this year i would like to see considerable discussion oakville deputyreeve william gillies pointed out the pro vincial government has theright to implement regional gov ernment over protest if it wishes georgetown deputyreeve a r speight said he felt mc keough had made it clear there would be no onecounty reg ional government burlington deputyreeve bert reeve said it is time to re frain from taking an impractical view and council should con cern itself with acquiring the best possible terms of entry into the twocounty system when mckeough spoke in milton last month he said he did not believe a reformed cquunty system would correct the problems of local government at that time he clashed with nassagaweya reevemrs anne macarthur who feels her town ship will lose its identity under a twocounty region last week she was still fighting mckeoughs proposal she challenged those favoring a haltonpeel region to outline the advantage of that system arc wc living under a threat i sometimes have little faith in the current provincial government but i have faith enough to believe we arent really being threatened she said the threat she implied some feel is being made is that hal ton agree to join with peel or lose burlington to a hamilton area region the steele commission on local government in hamilton suggested burlington merge with hamilton however burlington residents voted 81 against the suggestion mckeough has not statedwhere burlington will go since he is awaiting briefs on the steele recommendations nassagaweya deputyreeve cordon agnew compared hal tons situation to i man being told while covered with a shot gun to cither marry one girl or the other while he wishes to remain single reeve frank oake of acton said council had worked all year to keep halton out of the twocounty system tsows a poor time to capitulate he said oakville deputy reeve gillies said mckeough is acting the area s best interests if we resist the twocounty system well be dragged into it still fighting and unprepared for it having done nothing to establish upon what conditions we are brought in i suggest council expend its energies in assuring our views are well- planned and wellexpressed under mckeoughs plan the 18 municipalities in halton- peel would be reduced to seven boroughs six if burlington is not included no need for introductions
