WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1996 THE GEORGETOWN GEMINI Revised plans subject of meeting BY FRANCES NIBLOCK The Georgetown Gemini Concerns about lot sizes, in- creased traffic and park land were raised by neighbours of the proposed Meadowglen- Georgetown Investments subdivisions at a public meet- ing last Tuesday at the Civic Centre. The proposed plans for the abutting Mountainview Road properties, located between Glen Williams and John Street with the CNR tracks to the west, have been revised downward to 226 units and include plans for 168 single family homes and 58 townhouses. Two of three townhouse blocks have been removed, the park area in- creased and a storm-water pond relocated -- all resulting from six pre-hearings of the Ontario Municipal Board. The applicants have ap- proval, with draft conditions, for Phase 1 -- 59 units. Ap- proval for the remainder of the subdivision will wait un- til the issue of allocating scarce water in Georgetown is settled at the Ontario Mu- nicipal Board. Nine area residents raised concerns at the meeting in- cluding Mountainview Road resident Mimi Burdett, who sat on a steering committee dealing with the develop- ment. Burdett questioned the compatibility of having 40- foot frontages on the lots fac- ing Mountainview Road, not- ing that the existing homes across the street have 100- foot frontages. John Street resident Barbara Wanless asked about buffering and landscaping between the proposed devel- opment and John Street. She was told those issues will be dealt with in the draft plan. - Wanless was also told that a traffic signal is not war- ranted at the John Street- Mountainview Road inter- section, butthatatraffic study would be done. After the meeting Burdett said residents were not trying to stop the development, but had some fundamental con- cerns about the plan and ma- Son charged in dispute Police have arrested a 16-year-old male following an incident in his Georgetown home on Friday. Police report that the male Young Offender was having an argument with his father when the youth began punching holes in a door with his fists and head. Police arrested the youth, charging him with mischief and breach-of probation. News tips? "The Town vieweda lot of our concerns as those that would be covered by condi- tions of approval," Burdett explained on Sunday. "For example, there was no point in even dealing with the density issues because they were dealt with under the Official Plan amendment discussions. "Tt's very clear the Town wants this deal to go through, so the Town is not really in- terested in jeopardizing it through conditions of ap- proval." Burdett said redeveloping the former mushroom plant is also a major concern. "There are tons and tons and acres and acres of con- crete and re-enforced steel on the site and the job to remove it will be substantial and the noise and trucks will be hell," Burdett said. Town councillors took no action on the proposal at the public meeting but will de- bate its merits once staff pre- pare a report. SNAKE EYES!
