(Eve Martin photo) Storage space for food bank sought BY FRANCES NIBLOCK The Georgetown Gemini A request that Acton's FoodShare be able to use 1,000 square feet of space on the lower level of the old Acton Fire Hall prompted Ward 4 Councillor Al Cook to ask that the same offer be made to organizers ofthe new Georgetown food bank, who have been unable to find a new location. Town staff have been asked to report on the feasi- bility of the Fire Hall being used by Acton FoodShare, which has lost some of its donated storage space be- cause of the expansion of an- other business in the same building. Cook said the Georgetown woman who is attempting to open a new food bank, has been unable to find afford- able or donated space and, in fact, is storing food in her home. "T think she should also be Ls given the opportunity to come before Council and ask for municipal storage space," Cook said. Council did not approve the use of the old Fire Hall by Acton Food Share but instead sent the request to municipal staff to prepare a written re- port, which will also deal with a suggestion from Mayor Marilyn Serjeantson that the Georgetown food bank do- nations could be stored in Acton. A committee of trustees is to be established to hire a consultant and develop a list of candidates for considera- tion by the Board. "On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Bob for his leadership and direction dur- ing the past eight years," said Linda Glover, chair of the Board. "His vision for the future of the system and his per- sonal, caring approach for both students and staff have won him wide respect throughout the system. I know that he will continue to carry his enthusiasm and positive approach into his new role." "Tt was in my best inter- ests and the best interests of the system that I made this request," Williams said. "T have experienced sev- er ees Save 10% CS Se 2%, 1% or Skim Milk eral stress-related 'warning signals' in the past few months and it is on the advice of my physician, wife and family that I have made this decision. "Talso believe itis time for a change in leadership. "T have been privileged enough to serve as director for over eight years. It has been a challenging and satis- fying role and Ihave enjoyed the support of a wonderful staff," Williams said. Glover added her thoughts to the departing Director. "T know that this decision was a difficult one for Bob. "Tt takes a lot of personal courage to make a career change such as this in to- day's world. "Bob has again exhibited characteristics of true leader- ship by honesty in assessing the situation and acting in a straightforward way to reach a solution which will have a positive outcome for the stu- dents of Halton and all em- ployees of the Board."
