Branch 197 Peewees Pewee Rams go three for three in Peewee softball play BY DEVON AMBROSE Last week in minor softball action the Acton Legion Branch 197 Peewee boys had three games and defeated their opponents in all. In their first game last Tuesday, Acton went up against Puslinch and came home with a 16-9 win. Darrin Reid crunched a homer and a triple and Dave Dolliver helped Acton with three doubles. Dave Clark contributed with a triple and a single and Allan Reynolds cracked a double and a single in the victory. Their second game was on Wednesday and was a little closer. Acton hosted Glen Williams and registered another victory, 8-7. Lions Club ties Hornby BY DEVON AMBROSE Acton's Lions Club II squad went up against Hornby White in Atom league softball in Acton on Thursday. The game was a close one and finished with a final score of 16-16. David Schmuki smashed a home run and a single and Jamie Dunn cracked a triple and a single for the Acton team. Other contributors were Joey Thompson with a double, Craig Lockwood, Chad Greenwood and Ryan Turpin each with two singles. win a pair BY DEVON AMBROSE Acton's Galvcast-MacKenzie & Chapman Peewee Rams lacrosse club competed in a tournament in Owen Sound last weekend. In their first game of the tourney on Friday, Acton lost to the host team 4-3. Scoring for the Rams were Andrew Coe, Paul Withers aiid Jeff Newman. Sandy Chapman contributed with two assists and single helpers went to Scotty Monaghan and Thomas Wolfer. The team's next game was on Saturday, and in a hard-fought battle the team drew with Mississauga 5-5. Sandy Chapman, Jason Christopher, Jeff Newman, Thomas Wolfer and Shawn Weatherall each rifled in a goal for the Rams. Assists were registered by Newman, Chapman and Ryan Weatherall. Acton played again on Saturday and had to win all three periods to qualify for the semi-finals. They managed to win the game by a 9-6 margin but did not make it any further in the tourney. Richard Raju played an outstanding game with five goals, while Jeff Newman, Paul Withers, Andrew Coe and Shawn Weatherall all scored singles for Acton. Assists were contributed by Thomas Wolfer and Ryan Weatherall. In league play last Monday the Peewee Rams visited Fergus and slaughtered their hosts 9-2. Richard Raju and Thomas Wolfer each brought home a hat-trick for Acton, while Andrew Coe bashed in a pair and Ryan Weatherall whacked in a marker. Sandy Chapman, Paul Withers and Shawn Weatherall each had a pair of assists in the game. Thursday the Fergus team came to Acton and lost 8-7. Kyle Artem was the big gun with four goals and two assists. Richard Raju put two behind the Fergus keeper, while Andrew Coe had five assists.
