10 THE NEW TANNER Big trade in wind for Celebration on Ice Hardly had the word about the hockey game be- tween the Acton Proud All- Stars and the Acton Juvenile Sabres been announced when rumors of trades started. The game, a fund raiser for the Acton Proud fund raising campaign, takes place at the new Acton Arena and Community Centre, to- night (Thursday, Feb. 5) as part of Celebration on Ice. But the line-ups announced last week have changed. Regional councillor Rick Bonnette, originally slated to play goal for the Acton Proud All-Stars, is now in the Ju- venile line-up, along with netminder Bill Routlege. It's the first trade at the new Acton facility, and according to unnamed sources was de- manded by Routlege. He told veteran All-Star coach Harold Townsley "either play me or trade me." Townsley reacted instantly with a "blockbuster" trade with Juves manager Dan Golden, saying it was re- ported , he hasn't changed his coaching methods in 40 years, and now was no time to start. The deal is this: Acton Proud All-Stars will receive the two Juvenile goalies, Mike Kempton and James Metcalfe, in return for Rick "Bunny" Bonnette and 'R' Billy Routlege, a season's pass to the old Acton arena, a roll of tape and a free To- ronto Maple Leaf face paint. Rumors also suggest Scott "Skippy" Malcolm could be part of the deal. But manager Golden was quoted as saying, "We need experience for the big game, and the roll of tape could come in handy." Later, he confided to a friend that upper management must have made the deal. He isn't that stupid. 5 Bonnette's comment? "Playing goal is like politics; everybody takes a shot at you. I'll be looking forward to helping the Juveniles. After all, I'm a juvenile at heart." The game tonight is part of Celebration on Ice which begins at 7 p.m. Hosting the event along with Mayor Marilyn Serjeantson are long time Actonite Ron McKnight and Councillor Norm Elliott. All proceeds go to the Acton Proud fundraising campaign. 3 HOOPSTER HURRAHS: The Acton High School Senior Boys basketball team won all three of their games to take the championship at the Erin Raiders 4 annual tournament on Saturday at Erin High School.
