Recently Toronto council called for mandatory detec- tors in homes heated by burn- ing fuels like oil, gas or wood. Homes heated by elec- tricity would be exempt. Halton Hills Fire Chief Bill Cunningham said they havea real concern about the number of false alarms they are now responding to from people with the detectors. "Tf they (carbon monoxide detectors) become manda- tory, obviously there would b even more false alarms," Chief Cunningham ex- plained in an interview on Monday. "We've been hav- ing so many of them (false alarms) that we've started to track them to see what the causes have been." Once the Toronto bylaw takes effect building inspec- tors will be able to force homeowners to install detec- tors before they can get build- ing permits for major reno- vations. == [THE 'Tanner Book your Tanner Classified ad and have it read in every home in Acton!
