10 By MAGGIE PETRUSHEVSKY The New Tanner Fans of blues and classic or hard rock music can now chose their night and get their fix at the Hardball Café near Milton. Friday night is rock and roll while Saturdays is the night for "goodtime rockin' blues" says, Hardball pro- moter Joe Pinto. Upcoming shows include Toronto and area groups like Wildman, Jerome Godboo of the Phantoms, Chris and I've been an Acton resident for 20 years. Also in the works are vis- its from international record- ing blues bands from the USA like Lil' Ed and the Imperials, Koko Taylor, Johnny Winter, and Florida bluesman "The Sauce Boss" (alias Bill Wharton). Pinto describes Wharton as "a nut who looks like Colonel Sanders, acts like Ted Nugent, and cooks a gi- ant pot of gumbo live on stage while whipping out great slide guitar and vo- cals." "He's also a professional chef," Pinto explains, "so he's doing the two things he loves -- cooking and playing. He feeds his audience at the end of his show when his gumbo is cooked." The Hardball was the sin- gle sponsor behind last year's Halton Region Blues and Roots Festival. This year seven clubs including Manny's Road House in Acton will be involved with the second festival to run July 9 to 19. Because Pinto is linked to festivals in Detroit and Windsor the Halton festival will be able to share in draw- ing in some big names from Europe coming for the three events. Pinto plans to keep build- ing the festival and hopes to have it in Kelso Conservation Area by the year 200. He's still looking for sponsors for this year's festival . Anyone interested is invited to con- tact him at 873-6374 .
