Just hours after being res- cued from the roof his neigh- bour's house at the corner of Willow and River Streets, the silly seven-month-old feline got stuck on his own roof and had to be rescued, yet again. "That's it," exasperated owner Angela MacNeil said on Friday as Tweetie climbed all over the furniture. "My husband said I should declaw him and keep in the house, but I can't do that so until he learns to stay off the roof, 'he's staying in." Tweetie became a cause celebre in the neighbourhood after he climbed onto the roof and up between two brick chimneys at 20 River Street early on Wednesday morn- ing. Tweetie then became too scared to come down onto the steeply pitched roof. After several hours on the roof Tweetie's loud insistent meowing, which could be heard as far away as the li- brary, drew a small crowd and numerous suggestions on how to get him down. MacNeil said the fire depart- ment refused to come and help because it wasn't an emergency and the animal control suggested Tweetie would come down on his own. Drawn by the cat's cries s Tony Macri, a cat owner and employee of Hy-Grade Roof- ing Systems who was work- ing on near-by St. Alban's Church came over with his ladder and started to try to rescue Tweetie but Andy Wagner, who was looking after the house for his son, refused to allow Marci to go onto the roof, even after he offered to sign an insurance waiver. : "T walked away with tears in my eyes at that point," MacNeil said. "I understood that it was his property but that was my kitten up there." Tweetie's plaintive cries could be heard all night Wednesday and all day Thursday until 5:45 p.m. when he was finally rescued by another neighbour, also a cat lover, who wishes to re- main anonymous. "Tweetie came down onto the roof and over to the gut- ter but wouldn't come any further and this person was able to e on a little peak on the roof and grabbed him," a grateful MacNeil said, add- ing that Tweetie was hungry and tired, but no worse for his ordeal. Local drivers lucky Two local residents are lucky to be alive after a head- on car crash Friday morning on Highway 7 between Dub- lin Line and Highway 25. Paul Brisley of Rockwood and Helen Klemencic of Acton were both trapped in their vehicles following the crash, but both were released from hospital on the week- end. "They are both very Great Styles Great Selection Delivery Available Concrete/Garden Slabs Acton Precast Concrete Limited Quality Concrete Products Since 1963 after head-on crash lucky," explained Cambridge OPP Constable Hank Ysinga on Sunday. "Mr. Brisley made an evasive move which basically caused both the right, or passenger side cor- ners, to impact. Both drivers were alone in their cars so the passenger areas took most of the hit." Constable Ysinga said Klemencic was westbound on Highway 7 when she al- legedly crossed into east- bound traffic and came in collision with Brisley's car, a 1988 Dodge Omni, which was demolished in the crash. Klemencic's 1992 Nissan was also extensively dam- aged. Brisley is married to Robert Little Kindergarten teacher Carol Black and ini- tially it was thought that Black was involved in the crash because a fellow teacher saw her mangled car 'at the side of the road, not knowing Black and her hus- band had traded vehicles that morning. The investigation contin- ues and no charges have been laid at this point. "Tt's a tough situation be- cause there are legitimate The Brickman Complete Brick Restoration Experienced Stone Mason (35 yrs.) Built & Repaired as New uses for some material on the Internet that some parents might not want their children to see," Elliott explained in an interview on Friday. "Tt would be much better if whatever was on the screen was somehow purged prior to anybody else coming along who may be offended," Elliott said, noting the days of censorship when Acton li- brarians would refuse to al- low children to check out books that they felt were "too mature" are long gone. "The Board had a long discussion on this issue be- cause it's very difficult to bring in any blocking or fil- tering program that's selec- tive enough without going too far the other way," Elliott said. There are four computer terminals with Internet ac- cess, one at the Acton library and three in Georgetown.
