12 Waterproof those Blue Butts It's time to hook up to the boat trailer again and head out on holidays. You find yourself packed up and ready to roll. The boat trailer lights have to work this year after the pains- taking repairs you performed last year. Wrong! After careful examination you find, yet again, corrosion has destroyed the connection in the brand new blue butt connectors that you used during your repair last year. Try using heat shrinkage tubing. Just make your wiring connection, slide the shrink tube over top of it and heat the tubing evenly with a lighter. As the tuning heats, it starts to collapse and the glue on the inside of the tube begins to melt. You are done when you see the glue start to be squeezed out of both ends of the connector. Not only does this create a very strong connection that won't pull apart, it is also com- pletely water tight. It's fast and permanent! Remember that the white wire in the connector is the ground for all the lights. Using the hitch and ball as a ground causes electrical pitting on the ball, making it rust faster. Espe- cially with the technology available now. Forty-two years ago, Sherrill Macpherson (nee Murray) was attending Robert Little Public School when her Grade 6 teacher, Mrs. Williamson decided on a new class project - writing to another student in a differ- ent part of the world. Macpherson looked at the list of students and a name stuck out, Marion Miller (now Marion North) from Australia. "I just saw her name" said Macpherson, "I thought it would be interest- ing (writing to her)." A few weeks ago, Sherrill and her husband Bruce drove to Chicago and finally met the Norths. A little nervous at first, Sherrill and Marion still found endless things to talk about. "My moui was really ex- cited about finally meeting - her." noted Macpherson's (North's) husband said it was like they' ve known each other all their lives," Raine said. After the original letter, Macpherson and North wrote to each other often, some- times as often as monthly. "Back then the mail took longer. Sometimes it took 6 weeks to receive a letter." Macpherson noted. "Now we don't write as often, but we still keep in touch," said Macpherson. The two women took simi- lar turns in their lives. They were both married the same year. North celebrated her 35th wedding anniversary in March; Macpherson cel- ebrates hers this August. "T still have the wedding present she sent me, a beet root server," said Macpherson. Last year, for the first time, the two women finally heard each other's voices. North» called Macpherson telling her of her daughter's upcoming wedding in Chicago and told her that she would be visiting San Francisco, then Florida, before heading north. Even though the women have now met each other in person and talked to one an- \ 5. A description of the driver if possible.
