Town planner Arvin Prasad walked the commit- tee through the proposal, out- lining how Biggs wants to rezone the two-storey build- ing on a 2.2 acre site,.svyhich is zoned core commercial, to allow the seven apartments and seven parking spaces with access to and from John Street. While staff made no recommendation on the pro- posal, Prasad noted there are THE NEW TANNER Parking concerns raised at YMCA rezoning meeting concerns that need to be dealt with, including parking, be- fore staff report back to coun- cil on the proposal. The parking issue was also raised by Acton landlord Claudio Orticello who said he was concerned with traf- fic safety, along with a lack of green space. Biggs' planning consult- ant Mel Code invited coun- cillors to visit the site and suggested that Biggs was courageous to attempt to re- store and rehabilitate an old building in the middle of the downtown of Acton. The deadline for com- ments on the proposed rezon- ing is June 30. Veterans to receive flags In support of the many veterans who granted Canadians the opportunity to celebrate Canada Day, Shoemaker Funeral Home will be placing a Canadian flag on the graves of veter- ans buried in Fairview, St. Joseph's (Dublin) and Rockwood Cemeteries. A small Canadian flag will be placed on the graves for Canada Day by members of the funeral home staff and the Acton Legion. The veterans' names were collected through phone calls received by Shoemaker Funeral Home and through information supplied by the Acton Legion. This is Shoemaker Funeral Home's second year paying tribute to veterans this way. The staff at the funeral home wanted to find a special way to honour the men and women who made Canada Day celebrations possible. The flags will remain on the graves until July 3. Any fam- ily members wishing to keep the flag may remove it before this date. If you are aware of any veterans who did not re- ceive a flag, please contact Shoemaker Funeral Home at 853- 0350 to arrange for a flag to be placed on the grave.
