10 THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, JULY 16, 1998 Are you looking for things to do with the kids this sum- mer? Let me try to help you out. There are lots of options in and around Acton to keep kids of all ages entertained while they are out of school. There are many parks, trails, pools, and places to play nearby. Some you may al- ready know about, others may be new to you, so be sure and check them out. If you are looking to learn this summer, as well as play, one educational and fun place to go is the Electric Railway Museum on Guelph Line just a few minutes out of Acton. This volunteer-run See you at the Fair! JENNIFER AITKEN, Fair Queen 1997-98 attraction features the pre- served Rockwood station, railroad artifacts, and best of all (according to my 9 year- old brother) a real working railway! The tracks take you from the station for a short ride and then circle around a beautiful rock garden, stop- ping to let you off on Meadowville platform where you can have a picnic, eat ice cream, wander in the garden, check out some train cars and then catch the next train back. You may even end up riding more than one train as they have about a dozen that are able to run on any day. When we were there, we got to ride three different trains, and all were beauti- fully restored with as much attention to detail as possi- ble. The conductor was more than willing to discuss the trains and their histories. There are picnic tables and food is available where you purchase tickets. Guests are free to explore all open buildings and have unlimited train rides for the day. The museum's summer hours are from 10 to 5 daily from now until September, and special events occur all year round. Tickets for adults are $6.50, youth $4.50, seniors $5.50 and children 2 or un- der are free. Groups of four or more receive reduced prices. Take Highway 7 west to the Eden Mills cutoff, pro- ceed along the Town Line to the Guelph Line, then south and follow the signs. Class: Births McGILLIVRAY, Duff and Julie (nee Carney) welcome with love the arrival of twin boys Nolan James and Jacob William. 'Tis a true Scotsman's dream -- two for the price of one! The twins were born May 28, 1998 at Guelph General Hospital, weighing in at 5 Ibs, 4 oz each. Delighted first time eed ents are Ian and Cathy McGillivray, Georgetown, and fully licensed rank ts Phil and Marg Carney, Midland. The twins are welcomed by many, many aunts, uncles and cousins. Ray and Catherine Loftis are now the proud parents: of their precious daughter Justine Vic- toria Catherine, born June 8, 1998 at Credit Valley Hospital.
