12 THE NEW TANNER <4 F HALTON HILLS CAO (in dark suit) Steve Andrews warns those who took part in the tour of the old arena in Prospect Park to be careful as they walked around the building in view of safety. The arena has not been used for six months. Town staff has been insistent the building must come down. --Ted Tyler photo Old arena may be used for Fall Fair By FRANCES NIBLOCK The New Tanner There's still a chance that the old Prospect Park arena can be reopened for use dur- ing this September's fall fair, despite last week's an- nouncement by the Town's insurance company that it would not provide insurance coverage for public use of the building. "We have a letter from our insurance people that - they've opened the door a lit- tle bit for us," Town Admin- istrator Steve Andrews ex- plained on Monday. The insurance company wants further clarification of a previous engineering report to clarify whether the build- ing would be safe for three days in the fall so it can be used by the Acton Agricul- tural Society to house its Homecraft Division exhibits and for other fair events. Andrews said they will get SENIORS' Rec. Crr. By DOT REDEKOP their consulting engineer, who has said that the build- ing is safe for use during the fair, to prepare another report addressing the insurance company concerns about wind load on the building. "The main thing is safety," Andrews said. " We' felt, through our consultant, that the building is safe to occupy because the heaviest structural loading wouldn't occur until the winter with the snow. Now, (the insur- ance company) seems to be concerned with wind load and we're not sure what they mean by that concern so we will have our consultant speak with them." During a Town-led tour of the facility last week Town staff bolstered their recom- mendation to demolish the facility before this winter with a shopping list of defi- ciencies with the building, including problems with the roof, floors, walls, heating, electrical and water systems. -_ - Cae Casual Fine Dining Back By Popular Demand Daren Swanson Friday July 17 6:30 -- 11 pm Prime Rib & Yorkshire Pudding Special $16.95 For information, please call 853-3947 THURSDAY, JULY 16, 1998 SUMMER 1998 -- 2 FLIGHTS WEEKLY to Depart and Return Anytime in the Month of July* only , roundtrip *must return by July 31, 1998 - via Skyservice Canada's Premier Charter Airline + Maximum passenger comfort in a charter configuration « Better leg room and elbow room « State of the art technology * Quiet & environmentally friendly * Customer oriented flight attendants * Themed music channels, first run movies and inflight videos + Entertaining inflight magazine » Choice of meals served on china" * Carefully selected wines and full beverage service ' + Inflight duty free shopping ' SLIP INTO SOMETHING e A LITTLE MORE COMFORTABLE! i. per person. It was a very hot day but at the park there was a cool breeze blow- ing to cool off the 100 folks who came out. We played horseshoes, had a putting green, baseball (the men won, darn it) and lots of talk and laughs. There were draws all day and we ate hotdogs and drank pop. In the afternoon tea, coffee, punch and good- ies were served. We wish _ Frances Hogenbirk and Marjorie Fidler luck when they play golf at the Seniors games in Windsor in August. They are playing for Halton. Our trip to the Shaw Fes- tival has been cancelled but the Big Band Cruise on July 23 is still a go.
