W. (Guelph Automall) SUBARU SUBARU 837-3481 Check out traffic 3 on Kingham Road: By FRANCES NIBLOCK The New Tanner Acton resident Steve Grasby is afraid a child will be hurt or killed by a car on Kingham Road if nothing is done to improve safety in the densely populated townhouse neighbourhood. Grasby out- lined his concerns and sug- gested five solutions to the Town in April and was upset that he hadn't heard back until after he contacted The New Tanner recently. "What I'm really pushing for is stop signs and a crosswalk between phases one and two right at the play- grounds on either side of Kingham," Grasby said. "Kids are booting back and forth across Kingham, darting out between parked cars. I've seen two kids al- most get killed. We need to slow down traffic to make it safer for all of the children in this area," Grasby said, adding that there are 180 townhouse with approxi- mately 540 people, living in a half-kilometre area. Grasby did acknowledge it is the par- ent's responsibility to ensure their children are safe. * Acton Councillor Norm Elliott walked the area with Grasby in February when he initially raised concerns about snow plowing. "There's no question that Kingham is a busy road and I confess that I've been sit- ting on this because it was a winter snow clearing issue that was first raised. Mr. Grasby never mentioned a cross walk or stop sign to me, but I will ask staff to set up a meeting to look into the situ- ation," Elliott said. Bob Butrym, the Town's traffic co-ordinator, said the "warrants would never be met," meaning that there wasn't enough traffic to war- rant installing a stop sign. Town staff and councillors will tour the Kingham area before the end of the month. HAAS eSos cb aea PHARMACY LTD.
