David Garvie and Kenneth Wenzel scored the other two goals for Submarine, with Wenzel also earning an as- sist. Goalie Michael Pettit suc- cessfully stopped a penalty shot by the Firefighters, who gave a good team effort in the game. eee Clarke's Newfoundland Store came out way on top over Leathertown Feed & Supply on July 14 with an 8-2 final score. Liam Heelis scored an amazing four times, with teammate Joshua Essiembre close behind with three goals, Zack Woolford rounded out the score with his goal. Leathertown goals were scored by Todd Speakman and Richard Brownlee. Under 11 Acton Building Contractors played to a 5-2 win over MacMillan's July 14. Cameron Martin was strong in net for MacMillan's, despite the loss and also stopped a penalty shot. Ben Dekleer and Brendan Pezzack each scored and good efforts were given by Matthew Pettifer and Darcy Gordon. eee Town & Country Window Cleaning and Rockwood played to a 3-3 tie in Rockwood on July 13. Brandon Ceccotti, Davin Pole and Sebastian Mena Diaz Lacrosse each scored for Town & Coun- try, while teammates Andy Vanbar and Kyle Marshall both played strong games. Rockwood goals were scored by Fraser Anderson (2) and Tony Kraper. eee MacMillan's took control over Puslinch last Thursday, winning 8-1. Eric Corman led the scoring with three goals, with singles provided by Craig Kirkwood, Darcy Gordon, Brendan Pezzack and Ben Dekleer. Dylan Medland gave an outstanding defensive per- formance, helping out netkeeper Cameron Martin. GIRLS Under 9 Royal Jug City took a 3-0 win over Halton Credit Union last Wednesday. Melissa Friolet, Grace Turner and Victoria Edwards each scored for Royal. Under 13 A great team effort by the Acton Select team, sponsored by Bev Gray Design Services, proved too strong for the visit- ing Brampton A team last Fri- day. Acton dominated the score- "board with the 6-1 win. Erin Greenfield and Rachel Turner each scored two goals for Acton, with Lisa Robson and Holly Goddard popping in singles. Acton remains undefeated in league play at 3-1-0. The team takes on the also undefeated Brampton B team tomorrow (Friday) at 7 p.m. at Prospect Park in a top of the league clash. kt Acton Musicland came out on top in a close game with Halton Hills Furniture and Ap- pliances July 15. Musicland's two goals were scored by Jamie Greenfield and Holly Goddard, with Caitlin Rivers scoring the lone Furniture goal. Musicland goalkeepers Beth Clayton and Allison Clements kept their team ahead with a penalty save each. Under 17 After a six-game losing streak, the coaches decided to make major changes to the line- up at the July 14 game of Andy's Family Restaurant and Brampton 4. Excellent goaltending by Amanda Burgan in the first half followed by Amanda Prentice in the second resulted in a 4-0 win for Acton. Goals were scored by Jen Nor- man, Emma Douglas, Erin Douglas and _ Christine McGinnis. Both Rachel An- drews and Tonya Wood played great games. Last Thursday Andy's played their second game of the week against Brampton 5. It appears that the Acton ladies have turned their game around. At the end of the first half Acton, with only nine players out, was down 2- 1. Teresa Clayton and Melanie Sherron contributed with superb fielding and great goaltening by McGinnis and Erin Douglas helped keep the team alive. A pair of goals netted each by Emma Douglas and Norman capped an excellent comeback win of 4-3 over their opponents. Tykes hang on to tie Fergus The Acton Rams minor la- crosse rep teams' regular season games finished last week. Zone 8 playoffs for the Rams will be- gin the first week of August. Tyke After taking on a strong 4-1 lead after two periods, the Rams just managed to hold onto a 4-4 game against Fergus last Wednesday, playing at home. Russell Peacock scored three of Acton's goals with assists by Gord McKeon (2), Megan Ferria, Mark Drake and Evan Lavalle. Lavalle put Acton on the board first, assisted by Scott Timmerman and Drake. After playing to a2-2 tie after two periods, Acton turned up the heat, scoring three unanswered goals. Matt Bronizewski, Brett Manes and Nicky Newby each scored twice, with singles by Arron Chiasson, Scott Williams and Chad Artem. Artem led the team in assists with four, with others by Bronizewski (2), Joel Graydon, Chiasson and Williams. 3 homers power A&S Grasshopper Brandon Bennett led A&S Engraving with three home runs in last Thursday's game with Acton IGA at Sir Donald Mann Park. Ashley Witerwyk was three for three, including one home run, while Eric Niblock was two for three at bat. Both Chris Bourque and Jessica Pond showed great fielding for IGA, with Jessica solid at bat as well. Genevieve Ryan went three for three at the plate. Hardball Acton downs Hornby 13-4 Peewee Acton Price Check easily brought down Hornby recently, with a 13-4 away game. Michael Meade made his point early in the game with a long double in the first. But his best effort would come later in the fourth inning when Meade knocked one out of the park, at least 25 feet past the fence. Pitcher Adam Burgess threw seven strikeouts and made three outs with pick-offs at first over four innings. Reliefer Jamie McGhie fared well with five strikeouts in two innings. Play- ing the hot corner at third, Der- rick McKeown caught a line drive. Offensively, Shawn Richard led the team with three runs and 3 RBI, with Meade close behind with three runs and two RBI. Kyla Strahl led the way in the 11-12 girls' category with a bronze medal in 100 free and a 4th in 50 free. She also placed 3rd in the 100 back and 7th in 200 back in the consolation finals. Teammate Meghan Colvin earned a 4th in the 200 breast and a Sth in the 100 breast. The two girls broke their own club records in the 100 free and 200 breast respectively. Personal best times for the year were swum by Alicia Roza and Daniel Charland. Coach Gerry Ockenden said he was pleased with the sea- son on a whole. "We are always looking for new swimmers," he said. "We always like to think the next season will be more exciting than the one before."
