My car won't shut off! B= => QUESTION: J own a 1985 Camaro Z28. A family car it is not, however, driving around on a hot, sunny, summer day with the roof off is a true pleasure. Unfortu- nately the car is prone to run on after the ignition has been shut off. Could you tell ~me what could cause this? ANSWER: The most probable cause of this would be a sticking choke plate. If the choke does not open fully it will hold the fast idle cam on the carburetor in the cold start position. This causes your engine to idle higher than it should. The linkages on a choke are designed to operate clean and dry. Use only cleaners that do not leave an oily residue, which will attract dust and dirt. A couple of other possibilities could be: 1. You are getting a winter grade fuel. Winter grade fuel is unstable to help with starting in extreme cold. 2. There could be carbon building up inside the combustion chamber. This car- bon gets red hot when the engine is running and it could act like a spark plug, firing the cylinders after the ignition has been shut off. 3. An engine that is overheating can also cause fuel to become unstable. a WINDING UP THE PITCH: Jess McCaoll checks how fast her baseball pitch is.
