THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1998 THE NEW TANNER 13 The story of the old Acton arena continues... BY MAC SPROWL In 1946 at Acton Fair, box lacrosse was played the first time here. In 1946-47 the Acton Tanners won the O.H.A. Group Championship. The players on this team wee Norm Morton, Ezio Marzo, Dude Lindsay, Johnny Goy, George Bayliss, Jack Kentner Sr., Herb Woods, Leno Marzo, Sonny Townsley, Dunny Evans, Grant Gillespie, [lio Marzo, Pordge Riddall, manager Vic Rumley and trainer Frank Holmes. In 1948 the Acton Juve- nile team was winner of the O.M.H.A. Team executive and players were Ivan Harris, Dr. Sirrs, Fred Kentner Jr., Harold Townsley, Julian Zajac, Harry Lawson, Don Tyler, G. Robertson, John Mowat, Red Roszell, J.Royston, Jim Lindsay, Fred Dunn, Melbourne Blow, W. Guild, Don Anderson, Roy Kirkness and W. Palmer. Also in 1948, Acton Tan- ners went to the O.H.A. In- termediate B finals against Sundridge. The lineup was: goal - Woods, defence - Bayliss, Lindsay, centre - Hilson, wings - Ilio Marzo, Kentner, Gillespie, Goy, -- Leno Marzo, Morton, Riddall, Ezio Marzo, and Brush. That year, Sundridge won the O.H.A. Intermediate B Championship. Bucko McDonald M.P., age 36, played 38 games that season, the team winning 34, tying three and losing one. McDonald had played in the National Hockey League for the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. In 1948-49 the Acton Junior D team went to the O.H.A. semi-finals against Orono. The players were Don Anderson, Larry Arbic, coach Ilio Marzo, manager Dr. George Sirrs, trainer Charlie (Sonny) Townsley, Bil! Vaughan, Harold Townsley, Julian Zajac, Johnny Rowsell, Johnny Mowat, Graham Guild, Shammy Rusk, Keith Fay, Harry Lawson, Ken Hutchinson, Bob McEnery, Fred Kentner and Stan Fay. In 1952 in the industrial league hockey Baxter lab de- feated Smith and Stone to win the Sheeny Tost trophy. Players were H.
