The event attracted 2,200 Scouters, THE NEW TANNER 800 Americans. -- Angela Tyler photo Terry Fox Run kick-off at This Sunday, Sept. 20, the 18th annual Terry Fox Run takes places at the Acton High School track from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. With hundreds of thousands of participants attending run sites across Canada and around the world, this event has become the largest single-day fundraising event for cancer research in the world. It should be emphasized that the Terry Fox Run is not an actual race, but a non-com- petitive, family-oriented, fun By JON HURST event, with the object being to raise as much money as possible for cancer research. It should also be noted that the Terry Fox Foundation has operated as a separate entity from the Canadian Cancer Society since 1988. It was Terry's wish that all proceeds from the run should be dedi- cated specifically to innova- tive cancer research. The Acton run's official opening is at 8 a.m., with the ribbon cutting ceremony per- formed by Mike Mattocks THE PEOPLE representing the Acton Citi- zens of the Year, Miss Acton Fall Fair and her attendants and Mayor Marilyn Sergeantson. Participants can arrive any time between 8 and 3 to run, jog, walk or cycle some or all of the 25 laps around the track.
