His disgust with the plan- ning and by-law department came to a head Monday night, all because, in Thompson's opinion, of a by- law is being misread by Town employees in regard to a property dispute in Norval. By-law 12.121.2. (f) pro- hibits open storage in any front yard and within 1.5 metres of a lot line. On July 12, 1998, 18 vehicles were stored in the front yard or within 1.5. metres of the lot line. Thompson noted this has been an ongoing situa- tion. The original complaint about this property was re- ceived by the Town 12 years ago in 1986 when a neigh- bouring house had over- spray on the side of their house from vehicles being painted on the property. There is still no resolution in sight. For eight years and ten months, Thompson had been a member of the Committee of Adjustment for the Town of Halton Hills. "I felt eight years experience in Brampton was equivalent to 30 years experience in Georgetown," Thompson said in an interview follow- ing his resignation. Thompson said that it is quite common in Brampton for 22 applications for the Committee of Adjustments to be processed during a coun- cil meeting. In Halton Hills, there is an average of five. Thompson said the job of town staff is to provide "all the facts and the truth." Thompson does not agree the Town employees are doing this in this situation. "They have not prosecuted this in- dividual or as far as I know, acted on this complaint," Thompson said. He contin- ued, "I cannot allow my in- tegrity to be compromised by incompetence."
