Five Areos, including Team Canada player Cassie Campbell and former Team Canada player Cheryl Pounder, signed autographs, accepted Acton Proud Cam- paign coins from Mayor Marilyn Serjeantson and then joined members of the Twisters of the Halton Hills Girls Hockey Association for two practices. For Acton's Amanada Schroeder, 11, it was a dream come true. "T've never met a star be- fore. They were all really nice and answered all my ques- tions," Schroeder said, add- ing Oat she asked for advice on how to raise the puck. Schroeder plays for an Acton Atom house league team and for the Brampton Canadettes, the same girls' Rep team where Olympian Cassie Campbell got her start. Campbell, a forward who calls her hockey skills "a spe-- cial gift," is happy with the continuing surge in the number of women players. "T love being a female: role model and seeing the: enthusiasm in the younger girls for the game," Campbell said. "Hockey is a love for Ca- nadians, male and female, and now it's okay for females to play and their parents are allowing them to and they're loving it and doing well at it," Campbell said. It wasn't just girls who were eager for an autograph. " This is cool," said Braden Halls, an Acton Tan- ners Major Novice player, after getting Areo Cheryl Pounder's autograph. "It doesn't matter if it's me or my sister playing hockey, I just like the game and it's cool to see somebody Shewoed Hume Gouloun Hume Auctioneow HUME'S AUCTION FARM 9313 4th Line, R.R. #5, Milton Mobile: (416) 543-5242 Fax: (905) 878-7647 Tel: (905) 878-4878 who went to the Olympics, right here in Acton," Halls, 9, said.
