Both Acton Councillor Rick Bonnette and Mayor Marilyn Serjeantson reported receiving telephone mes- sages on Monday from Halton's Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Bob Nosal, that the facility would close. Eric Hall, a spokesman for Diversicare Management, a health management com- pany brought in to run the Manor by the court-ap- pointed receiver, Banca Commerciale Italiana of Canada, said Tuesday that no order to close the home had been issued by the Ministry of Health, or anyone else. "The resolution of the fu- ture of Village Manor is still being debated - there's a cou- ple of options available and we'll know by Thursday," Hall said. The home, which has op- | Newstand price: 40¢ + GST] erated on Main Street North for approximately 25 years, has 39 licenced beds under the Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital. Ten of the beds are vacant and two residents are funded through the Hamilton program. The 27 residents -- some of whom have called the Manor home for 20 years - are physically or mentally handicapped adults. The care home is gov- erned under the Tenant Pro- tection Act. The New Tanner office has had calls this week from area residents claiming they have heard the bell ringing at the old ActoAn Town Hall on Willow Street. Halton Hills Community Support and In- formation Centre (formerly ASSIC) who occupy the first floor of the Town Hall have also had calls with the simi- lar claim. The old Town Hall has been rumored to be haunted by a former Acton resident named Jimmy. Employees of the former ASSIC are quite familiar with Jimmy and claim to have heard him walking around the upstairs of the Town Hall at night. Even a local camera crew has also claimed to capture Jimmy on film during an overnight stay in the Town Hall. On Monday many in town apparently heard the bell ringing, although it was a calm day and there was no- body near the rope for the bell. Is it Jimmy ringing the bell? Sap's running!
