Reczuch used the van Dinther family of Acton as the characters for the story about a young boy's thoughts on an after-dark drive home. Reczuch said she used ar- tistic licence in a picture of a downtown street where she rearranged a row of Mill Street shops, including the former Sweet Dreams Café, Close to the Edge, The Doll Emporium and Bank of Montreal. "There's a section that talks about the colours of a strip of stores looking like melted ice cream on the street and it made me think of the Doll Emporium, so I took some pictures on Mill Street and used some other archi- tectural details," Reczuch said. The book is done in pas- tels, a new medium for Reczuch, who enjoyed the freedom of pastels that al- lowed her to "break out of the mold" after doing eight wa- tercolour books. "I needed something faster and more intense. [ tend to be very precise, neat } ie Hiya PAITG| in local illustrator's new book Parker, took pictures of the scene, "We were thrilled. It was exciting to see what a great job Karen did in bringing the photographs to life," van Dinther said, adding that Luke, the main character and his sister Stephanie, loved seeing their faces in the book. Reczuch's new book and the original drawings will be on display beginning Sunday afternoon at the Williams Mill Gallery in Glen Williams. Reczuch will also read from Melted Star Jour- ney. I've known Walt since schol age and have had dealings with him for years. Tunderstand the matter in question is $2,500. This amount of money would not tempt me to deal elsewhere because of Walt's excellent business manner, his sales- men, and most ofall his serv- ice department which is sec- ond to none in the country.
