Maggie Petrushevsly photo Carlisle edges Acton in playoff The Acton II hardball team of eight and nine-year- olds lost a heartbreaker, 17- 16 to Carlisle Sunday evening in their final open inning. Acton won the first of their best of three games in Carlisle last week, then lost their second game Tuesday in Acton forcing the third ames back to Carlisle on unday. The teams were very evenly matched. Acton was winning Sunday until Carlisle drove in cight runs in their open inning: Rockwood girls second in ORSA take 20 - 0 record into tourney The Rockwood Bantam Girls had to settle for second place in the Ontario Rural softball Association (ORSA) playdowns with St. Marys taking top spot. In the first game of the series St. Marys was able to take an easy Win with a 13 to 2 victory. Jt seemed like every ball they hit found a hole while Rockwood couldn't buy a hit. In the second game St. Marys came from behind to post a 5 to 4 victory and the series two games straight. Rockwood led the game 4 to 0 going into the bottom of the fifth when St. Mary mounted a 6-hit 5-run attack to take the lead. Rockwood threatened in the top of the sixth and sev- enth innings but left runners stranded on base both times. To get to the finals Rockwood played three other rounds. In the first series the locals beat Binbrook 12 to 2 at Binbrook and then 5 to 4 in Rockwood. The next series saw Hastings come to town and Rockwood post an easy 27 to 8 win. Four nights later with the series shifted to Hast- ings, the Rockwood squad was able to mount a 14-hit at- tack and come away with an easy 11 to0 win. In the third series, Rockwood would face Delhi, ( Minor Ball ) Bruce Hood Trouble Shooters had three wins in recent ladies' softball match- ups.
