THURSDAY, AUGUST 26, 1999 13 The Rockwood EWAG starts busy season Our summer is just about finished and like you we are starting to gear up for the au- tumn months at EWAG Com- munity Services in Rockwood. It's been a great summer but we are looking forward to the exciting things we have going on in September and October. so keep posted. Come into "Happy Re- turns" our thrift shop and see what we have for you for the fall season. Our volunteers have worked hard to set up the shop, ready for the cooler weather. We have a great sale on in September with all adults and children's pants on sale at half price. We are also looking for volunteers to help out in the shop. If you like to work independently and can spare a few hours a week we would live to have you join our team of great volunteers. Our Seniors group will be resuming their regular season Volunteers needed September is Arthritis Month and the organization is seeking volunteers to help with its annual door-to-door canvas in Rockwood and Eden Mills. Anyone with a few hours to spend in helping out the Wel- lington Chapter of the Cana- dian Arthritis Society is asked to contact Jan Osborne at 856- 4605. of Euchre and Bingo start- ing with Euchre on Sept. 2 at lpm. There is an Outlet Shop- ping Tour to Cambridge planned for Sept. 14. The 150 year-old limestone buildings contain 20 stores and one of the largest antique malls in Ontario. Cost is $10 and the bus will depart from Squires Lodge in Rockwood at 9:30 a.m. If shopping is not your thing then maybe you would like a tour of the Cox Creek Winery in Guelph on Oct. 7. Cost for the wine tour will be $15. The bus will leave Squires Lodge at approx. 12:45 p.m. If you are inter- ested please call Lynn of Sue at 856-2113. We will be offering Memoir Writing Once again starting September 17 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for six weeks. The group had a great time last spring so join them again this season at Rockwood library. Cost is $45 or less if we have a big enough group. Diners' Club will be start- ing up again on Sept. 14 at Squires Lodge. Cost for lunch is $5 per person and the food is great. We will be offering goodies and coffee by donation at our office so come on in and help us fight this disease. Van flips Melissa Finlay, 24, of Guelph walked away without a scratch after rolling her van on County Road 44 just south of Highway 7 in Rockwood early Friday afternoon. OPP report Finlay was driv- ing too fast on a wet and slip- pery road when she lost con- trol. Eramosa firefighters helped extricate her from the wreck. Gas line ruptured Last Friday contractors using a backhoe at a house on Highway 7 west of Rockwood didn't bother to check the gas line location before starting to dig and rup- tured a gas line in the proc- ess. Eramosa fire fighters evacuated two homes. The highway was closed for half an hour while Union Gas came in and repaired the line. The cost of the repairs will be billed to the construction firm and the homeowner. Driver charged Guelph OPP were called to Brucedale when a motorist stopped a possible impaired driver Friday. Although po- lice found no indication of ei- ther alcohol or drugs, the wit- ness said the driver's speed was erratic, and swerving several times into the oppo- site lane. The man, a resident of Terra Cotta, was charged with dangerous driving.
