THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1999 Dorothy.. Continued from Page 1 and her boundless energy and quiet kindness make her ial. "Dorothy had made a dif- ference in the community of Acton where she had lived for more than 50 years. She is a tole model that I and many women younger than Dorothy, are trying to live up to," Serjeantson said. "T have the time to give," Rognvaldson said in an inter- view before the presentation. She said she was both "sur- prised and honoured" to have been selected for the award. "I get a lot of satisfaction from taking food to people, helping those who are sick and driving people who need to get to appointments," Mrs. Rognvaldson said, adding she likes meeting new people and that volunteering "gets me out of the house." Mrs. Rognvaldson began to volunteer after her hus- band passed away in 1995and hasn't looked back. + COUTTS CARDS + WE SERVICE ALL DRUG PLANS + COLOSTOMY SUPPLIES ye ACTON PHARMACY LTD. + FREE IN TOWN DELIVERY + BLOOD GLUCOSE MONITORING MACHINES 2 Main Street North, Acton 853-1620 Two graduates of St. Joseph's school, Acton, were winners of prestigious awards at the graduation exercises of Bishop Reding Secondary School in Milton recently. Children's Halloween costumes should be bright and made of non-flammable material. At- taching reflective tape or other material to the costume helps make trick-or-treaters more vis- ible. For added safety, have your child carry a lit flashlight. 2. Facial make-up is the recommended means of disguise. But if masks are worn, the eye holes should be large enough so that vision is not re- stricted. Costumes should also be kept short in length to prevent tripping. 3. Children should either be accompanied by an adult or travel together in groups while trick- or-treating. 4. Make certain your child trick-or-treats on one side of the street and crosses only at cor- ners. Children should be advised to walk on the sidewalks and stay off roads and lawns. 5. Halloween treats should be taken home to be inspected by parents before eating. 6. Trick-or-treating should occur in the early evening hours. 7. Instruct children to stand at the door of a home, not to enter it under any circumstances. Children should stay away from homes that are in total darkness. 8. Remember that a Block Parent home is a safe place to go when in need of assistance. Par- ents should reinforce this with their children and make sure they can recognize the Block Parent sign. tere 853-2460 In the Glenlea Plaza YOURWAY Custom Pipe Bending Lic.
