Last weekend, artists Michelle Loughery and Liz Allardice of Vernon, B.C. be- gan drawing and painting their design on the wall op- posite the arena entrance. It has been blocked into three sections. Both of these will be in sepia tones "like an old photograph," Loughery says, while the cen- tre panel, done in full colour, will show hockey, lacrosse and baseball players in au- thentic uniforms of an earlier era. Later this spring the two artists will return to do the outdoor mural on the wall be- hind the Mill/Main Parkette. That one will depict commer- cial and industrial sites from Acton's past, says Business Improvement Area manager, Janis Fread. Work on that mural cannot begin until repointing and repairs to the wall have been completed. The idea for murals was raised by the BIA and others, then rted by Heritage Halton Hills, which did some fundraising for the project and applied for grants for it. Halton Hills Recreation di- rector Joy Thompson says the two murals are expected to cost more than $17,000. Thompson said the choice of artists to do the murals was made by a group of commu- nity representatives called the Acton Heritage Mural Committee. They also decided what themes and what indi- vidual facets of Acton's his- tory should appear in the murals. PoLice BEAT Buses vandalized Vandals did $6,000 damage to four school buses parked at the rear of Tyler Transport on Queen Street between 9 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Mon- day. The rear exit windows were smashed on all of the buses and 24 seats were slashed and torn on one of them. Uneasy chair Firefighters were called to Acton High school at 2:12 p.m. last Wednesday to deal with a burning chair. When they arrived the deliberately set smoldering fire in a recliner chair, located outside the school, had been extin- guished.
