Customers who don't switch will pay a price approved by the Ontario En- ergy Board. If you decide to switch, says David Smelksy, manager of finance and administration for Halton Hills Hydro, make sure your energy supplier has answers to questions like: how you can get out of the contract if you don't like the service? Is their price really cheaper? What happens if the retailer is unable to fulfill its contractual observations? Is there a fee to switch? Residential customers and many small businesses who sign a contract have a 10-day cooling off period. During that time you can change your mind and cancel without pen- alty. It's confusing especially for those of us who wonder what the change is all about. Ontario Hydro and the local utility has been a safe and re- liable supplier of power for Ontario since its inception nearly 100 years ago.
