Her family was the centre of Marjorie's life and every- thing she did was done in their interest. One of Edward and Mary Harris' six children, Marjorie was born May 10, 1922 ona Caledon area farm. Her schooling began in a one- room rural school. She took her teacher training in To- ronto, then taught for the To- ronto School Board for two years. Since she lost her father when she was five and her mother shortly after begin- ning her teaching career, she returned to help her brother on the family farm. She began working at the Acton Post Office in 1963, then transferred to Georgetown until her retire- ment in 1987. She was a founding mem- berofP.O.W.ER. (Protect Our Water and Environmental Re- sources) in their opposition to a proposed dump at the Acton quarry and acted as the group's treasurer for 10 years. She loved her garden and family and friends often en- joyed gifts from it. One of her proudest achievements was success- fully arguing a case for sub- dividing six lots off the family farm before the Ontario Mu- nicipal Board. This allowed her children to live close enough to help each other in various ways through the years. Marjorie and Harvey at- tended Acton's Trinity United Church for neagly 30 years. P; Marjorie leaves her hus- band of 53 years, Harvey Kirkwood, and children Marilyn and Bill Coxe of Milton, Lois Osborne of Georgetown, and Thelma and Nigel Pettipher, Ruth and Wayne French, and John and Helen Kirkwood all of R.R. 4, Acton. She also Jeaves her brothers Jack and Herb, and sisters Jean Harris and Vera Hindley. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren and one great grandson. She was predeceased by her daughter Linda (1979), her son-in-law Bert Osborne (1999), her sister Elizabeth Fitzpatrick (1969) and her par- ents. A funeral service for Marjorie was held at J.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home, Georgetown followed by in- terment at Georgetown's Greenwood Cemetery.
