The Bearcats downed their opponents in two straight games, 25-23, 25-21, with Jennifer Wieck leading her team defensively both at the net and in back court. Caroline Shaw and Melissa Bigg shared set- ting duties while Kirsten Lowe and Alison Minto helped out in the hitting department. Strong team play and good communication made it a great start to the season. The senior team then took the floor and with the strong defensive play of Sarah Berry and Katie Kruk, took the Rebels to three games before being defeated 13-25, 25-23, 15-11. This team shows lots of potential for being early in the season Novice Tanners split game The Carquest Acton Nellis Construction Novice BB Tanner split their week- AHS girls edge Christ the King The Acton High School girls hockey team hosted Christ the King School in league play on Tuesday, De- cember 9th and took a 2-1 win. Atom Tanners win three in three games The Dennys Atom AE Tan- ners played three games in three days on Dec. 6, 7 and 8 and won all three. They beat Fergus 4-2, Milton 4-1 and fin- ished off with a thrilling 1-0 victory against first place Erin. Jesse Hill played the whole game in goal against Fergus, and stopped 12 shots to earn the win. Acton fell behind 2-0 early, then fought back to make it 3-2 Acton late in the third. Fergus pulled their goalie, and Jeff Curry scored into the empty net, from Mitchell Brake. Brake also scored ear- lier, assisted by Holden Carachi and Charlie Browes. Acton's other goals were by Jon Porty from Dylan Dritton, and Britton from Browes and Porty. Wyatt Martin was plus two on defence for Acton, and Tyler Christopher had four hits. Stop Milton The Tanners beat Milton for the fourth time this season, this time 4-1. Colton Wiens and Jesse Hill shared the goaltending, Hill stopped all 11 of his shots for the half game shut out. Once again Acton fell behind, but scored four in a row to overpower the weak Milton team. Scoring were Dyland Brittton (G), Roger Kirkness (GA), Mitchell Brake (G), Jeff Curry (G), Adam Duval (A), Charlie browes (A), Wyatt Martin (2A), and Holden Carachi (A). Wiens hot Colton Wiens beat Erin vir- tually single-handedly, stopping all 27 Erin shots with numerous acrobatic saves on breakaways, rebounds and nu- merous other goal scoring opportunities. Erin maintained their pressure all game, and on a number of power plays, but Wiens was simply unbeatable. Mitchell Brake accounted for all the scoring Acton needed, on a breakaway, as- sisted by Gavin Ragan. As usual, a trip to Erin meant innovation from the referees, including a partial bench mi- nor penalty that gave Erin a five on three advantage near the end of the third period, It did not matter, because Colton Wiens stopped everything, as the Tanners beat Erin for the second time this year, against three losses. Unfortunately Acton lost their momentum in the second, recording no shots on Brampton's net, while Brampton fought back, ul- timately gaining a 3-2 lead. Acton pulled goalie Ma- son Overland but Brampton scored to win 4-2, evening the seasons eries at two games each. Woolwich victims The next day, the Tanners travelled to Elmira to play Woolwich, and came home with a 4-1 victory.
