It's great news for all the winter . sports enthusiasts, but not so great for drivers. Like a good scout it's best to be prepared, and with that in mind I'd like to offer some helpful hints, for a safer winter driving excursion. 1) Keep the gas tank topped up. Expensive but well worth the effort. 2) Ifyou become stranded, it's generally best to remain inside your vehicle. 3) Carry a fully charged C-phone and a Call Police sign. 4) When someone stops to assist you, lower Acton, ON. Novice Tanners finish with 3-0 win The Carquest Acton Nellis Construction Novice BB Tanners finished their regular season with a 3-0 victory over Hespeler, then lost an exhibition game 2-1 to Erin. Acton faced first-place Hespeler on Jan., 17, need- ing a win to secure second place in their league. They got the win, by a score of 3- 0, on the strength of two goals from Ryan Dunlevy and one from Michael Evans. Assists went to Carter Ebbinge, T.J. Baker and Billy Mowat. Shots on goal were 6-6, but Mason Overland turned away all six of his to earn his sixth shut-out of the season, and second in a row. Acton finished the regu- lar season with a record of 16-6-2, one point behind first place Hespeler, one ahead of third-place Oakville, both of whom are 'A' teams. The Tanners travelled to Hillsburgh on Jan., 18, and lost an exhibition game 2-1 to Erin, who will be their first round OMHA play-down opponent. The game was de- layed 30 minutes due to ice problems, and the ice also gave the Tanners problems during the game. The Tanners outshot Erin 18-8, but could not solve the Erin goalies' sprawling style. Michael Evans gave the Tanners a 1-0 lead, from Brodie MacFarlane, with eight seconds left in the sec- ond period, but Erin scored two in the third to take the win. Acton will need a solid effort in the playoffs to beat Erin, the schedule has yet to be announced. It will be available at: www.actontanners.com.
